Are you struggling to drag yourself to the gym? Starting to “forget” your New Year’s Resolution? Looking for a way to interact with other gym goers, to get inspired to try a new workout, or to make your workouts more exciting? Enter Fitocracy, the website that lets you treat your fitness like a video game.
Part workout tracker, game and social media site, Fitocracy is a fun way to spice up your exercise experience. (Plus, it’s free!) When you log your workouts, you earn points based on the difficulty of the exercises as well as the duration or sets and reps. Earn enough points and you can level up. Every time you level up, you move up on the leader board. Complete challenges or quests and you can earn badges to display proudly on your profile. These little awards are a great motivation to keep exercising.
Whatever your favorite exercises, strength training or cardio, chances are they’re on Fitocracy. You can even distinguish between what kind of equipment you use, be it barbells, dumbbells, cables, bodyweight, and more. The cardio options include various sports and exercise classes, as well as indoor and outdoor activities.
Another cool thing about Fitocracy is that you can see your progress over time. In your profile you can view your history for each exercise and see a chart with how you have improved. This is a very useful tool for ensuring that you are on track to meet your goals.
Fitocracy is also a great way to connect with other people. With a newsfeed similar to Facebook or Twitter, you can post updates alongside your workouts. Fitocracy also has a “follow” function that allows you to see the workouts and updates of everyone you follow. Likewise, people who follow you will be able to see your workouts. Want to applaud someone on his or her workout? No problem. You can click a button to instantly “give props,” just like you would “like” something on Facebook.
The element of community on Fitocracy is amazing. The social aspect makes sticking to a workout routine easier because there is always someone to encourage you.
Feeling competitive? Join a group that suits your interests and participate in one of their challenges. The groups allow you to interact with people that enjoy the same sport, lifestyle, or personality as you. For example there are groups for runners, vegetarians, crossfitters, Tumblr bloggers, and many, many more.
Another way to collaborate with other Fitocracy users is through the forum. Whether you scan through the topics or post one of your own, the forum is a great way to ask questions about anything from recipes, supplements, exercises, or injuries see what others in Fitocracy community have to say.
Whether your goal is to lose fat, gain muscle, or improve your sport, Fitocracy is a great way to accomplish it. Fitocracy is invite only right now but it’s growing larger everyday and you can find an invite easily by searching twitter or google or by having a friend invite you.
