Fall is here! You know what that means: autumn leaves, crisp air, warm sweaters and colorful scarves. However, perhaps one of the most wonderful things that the fall season can bring is the chance to get to know new people here at school and maybe even cuddle up to a couple of hotties. However, without the promise of sun-soaked days or near-tropical weather, coming up with interesting date ideas might seem like a tiring task. However, just as summer brings the opportunity for fun date ideas, so does fall. Check out our list of ideas below:

1. Haunted hayride

One of my favorite things about fall can be summed up in one word: Halloween! Why not use this opportunity to get a little closer to your crush? Starting now, there are lots of fun Halloween-themed date ideas that you can explore. For example, many nearby farms have seasonal corn mazes and hayrides. Now, while sitting on a prickly bale of hay on a rickety tractor may not sound like your idea of romance, think of it this way: a haunted hayride is a great excuse to grab on to the adorable guy sitting next to you. Check out Clayton Fear Farm in Clayton, NC for tickets and schedules!

2. Halloween costume shopping

If you’re as much of a Halloween buff as I am, chances are that you’ve already started brainstorming what your costume is going to be. This could be a great chance to take a day trip to Southpoint Mall’s Halloween and More store and see if you and your date can come up with an it’s-just-so-cheesy-that-it-works duo costume (think Jane and Tarzan, Batman and Batgirl, or even UNC and Basketball). If that’s just a little too adorable for your liking, you can also go the competitive route and see who out of the two of you can come up with a better costume. The loser buys the winner a pumpkin-spiced Starbuck’s latte! It’s a win-win!

3. The State Fair

If Halloween’s not your thing, there are still plenty of fall-themed date opportunities available to you. The N.C. State Fair will be in full swing starting October 13–that means amusement rides, fairground foods and plenty of awesome (and cheap) concerts. Artists like Kellie Pickler, David Nail and Easton Corbin will be playing at the fair and tickets are available for $5 to $15 a piece! Take your cutie and see if he can win you a teddy bear.

4. Maple View Farm

If you still haven’t gotten your share of delicious fall food at the fair, swing by Maple View Farm in Hillsborough. This farm makes its own ice cream and even has gourmet seasonal flavors. Pumpkin pie sundae, anyone?

5. An evening with this fall’s TV shows

After all of your fall-themed dates, you may be a bit worn out. Take this time to get closer to your love by cuddling up on the couch and tuning into some of fall’s hottest television shows. Some of my personal favorites are the very Mad Men-esque, Pan Am (ABC, 10 p.m.) and the gory, but highly addicting, Dexter (Showtime, 9 p.m.).
