#Celebrating UNC: Best Study Spots on Campus

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapel Hill chapter.

In honor of the University’s 225th birthday, we are celebrating different aspects of the UNC experience, and what’s more integral to Carolina than studying? Sadly, not much. With that in mind, here is a list of some of the best study spots on campus.

For the caffeine-deprived

It’s a little-known fact that the Health Sciences Library is the only library at Carolina that has its very own coffee shop, Friends Cafe. For those of you that can’t study without coffee flowing through your veins, the Health Sciences Library might just be the perfect place for you! Health Sciences is located at the School of Medicine, so it’s a convenient walk or bus ride away for students living on South Campus, but it’s important to remember that the cafe is closed on the weekends.

Are libraries not your thing? Try the study area on the third floor of the student store. The chairs are comfy, there is lots of natural lighting and you’re only an escalator ride away from Starbucks. For an added level of comfort, there’s even a fireplace! The student store opens at 7:30 in the morning and closes at 8 in the evening on the weekdays.

For the person looking for a nice view

Wilson Library is primarily known for its reading room, but its Music Library also happens to have a beautiful view of the Bell Tower. Go in the side entrance between Wilson and the UL and camp out in a small room known as the “fishbowl”. The room itself is small, but it has a view that fills the soul.

For the person wanting to pretend they’re somewhere other than a college campus

Although most people eat lunch here, the patio area in between Lenoir and Manning is one of my favorite places to get work done. The black wire tables combined with the brick terrace transport you far, far away from the stress of your impending tests and upcoming due dates. This area is ideal for temperate fall weather, so go grab a thermos of tea and your favorite sweater and get ready to be productive.

For the multitasker

Treadmill desks are the perfect invention for people trying to stay active while simultaneously do some homework. Lucky for you, there are two places on campus where you can find them! Go downstairs to the Underground at the Student Union (with the added perk of being close to Alpine Bagels), or check out the fifth floor of Davis library for a quiet atmosphere and an expansive view. A word for the wise: the treadmill desks in the Underground are usually taken during busy times of the day, so don’t be surprised if you have to wait for a while before one is available.

Because it’s required: Wilson Library Reading Room

Is it incredibly quiet? Yes. Are you allowed to touch the books? Not really. Does it make you feel like you’re at the signing of the Declaration of Independence? You betcha. Maybe the ambiance will serve as a great inspiration for that history paper.

What’s your favorite study spot?

Life's short, drink the coffee.
