Madeline is a typical college girl- she wants to stay comfortable at all times. However, Madeline has mastered the art of looking fabulously fashionable while remaining comfy. Relying on good basics paired with interesting textures, Madeline’s style is easily achievable while remaining at the top of the fashion game. Her Campus gets the scoop from this college fashionista as Madeline dishes all about her wardrobe.

HC: Describe your personal style.

MM: I like to build a foundation with neutral, understated basics and then add pizazz though textures and shapes instead of colors.

HC: If your wardrobe could only be one color, what color would it be?

MM: I love both black and white. I would choose black for winter and white for summer. They are both good baseline colors that are versatile. You can build any outfit from either black or white because they complement every other color.

HC: What fashion item can you not live without?

MM: A solid white V-neck T-shirt and jeans. My favorite white T-shirts come from Gap and Madewell because they have a boxy cut and are the perfect length. I love any dark wash jeans especially from Hudson Jeans and Madewell.

HC: What is your favorite designer item in your closet?

MM: Easily my Michael Kors black pointed-toe pumps. They make any girl feel powerful and strong. Also, they give more height and better posture. (Plus, you can run in them when you are running late!)

HC: What do you think is most important to building a wardrobe?

MM: Good quality basic pieces that do not follow trends. Items like jeans, button-downs, t-shirts and a good winter coat build a good foundation to pair with more elaborate pieces. For shoes, black flats and heels with a pair of “fun shoes” are a must!

HC: Which celebrity relates best to your personal style?

MM: Both Miranda Kerr and a younger version of Sophia Coppola. Miranda’s style is classic with a sassy twist and Sophia, like mine, is simplistic and basic.

HC: If you had an unlimited budget, what would be your first fashion purchase?

MM: I have two items that are on my fashion wish list. Any pair of shoes from Nicholas Kirkwood and anything from Raf Simmons, who designs for Dior.

HC: Do you look to magazines for fashion advice? If so, which ones?

MM: I have a consistent subscription with both Vogue and Elle; this is where I pull most of my inspiration and learn about new trends from season to season. I also check fashion blogs, my favorite being the Harper’s Bazaar “Street Style” online column that shows fashion from different events.

HC: How do you manage to remain comfortable while also staying fashionable?

MM: I do not rely on athletic clothing as staples in my closet. I love jeans, especially dark wash, which give a casual yet put-together appearance. I also look for cute clothes that are made from soft materials so they are comfortable to wear.

HC: If you could shop with any fashion icon, who would you choose?

MM: I would choose Diane von Furstenburg. Her style is more bohemian, which isn’t really my taste, but she lives for fashion and is very knowledgeable about the industry.
