From the Marching Tar Heels to UNC Dance Marathon, Jean-Luc Rivera is a student with lots of school pride and a passion for helping others. Her Campus sat down with Jean-Luc to get an idea about what inspires him most.
Her Campus: What are you studying at UNC?
Jean-Luc: Biology Education and Spanish
HC: What are you involved with on campus?
JL: UNC Marching Tar Heels, UNC Teaching Fellows, UNC Dance Marathon, Campus Housing. I also
HC: What has been your favorite sporting moment you’ve gotten to witness as a marching Tar Heel?
JL: Oh that’s easy, the punt return by Gio!
HC: Tell us about your involvement with Dance Marathon?
JL: My first year at UNC, I was just a dancer, but I was inspired by my captain to apply for a committee the next year. I decided to apply for the morale and recruitment committee which I have been involved with for the past two years now. We are the ones you see getting crazy and breaking it down in the pit.
HC: What inspires you to be so involved with DM?
JL: Dance Marathon is just a great cause. It is amazing to see the impact I can make on the children and their families. I’d like to think that if I were ever in a similar situation, someone would be there to help me. To me, Dance Marathon is like the light at the end of the tunnel.
HC: What is your favorite study spot?
JL: I’m actually a big fan of the stacks on the first floor of Davis, but if I’m feeling a bit risque, I go to the eighth floor.
HC: What makes you proud to be a Tar Heel?
JL: I’m proud to be a part of a student body where the students are so active in the community and have a passion for helping others.
