Campus Celebrity: Colin Hodges

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapel Hill chapter.

Even on the most rainy and dismal of days Colin Hodges can walk into a room fashionably put together in jeans, a grey trench coat and combat boots.

A senior journalism advertising major with a minor in screenwriting, from Snow Hill, N.C., Hodges is a community manager in Manning East, a member of Carolina Association of Black Journalists, Public Relations Student Society of America, American Advertising Association, Ad Club, National Student Advertising Competition 2013 UNC Team, as well as a senior marshal.

Hodges will be the first African-American (and also the first left-handed person) to graduate from the screenwriting program at UNC.

Even with all of his commitments on campus, Hodges still finds the time to engage in activities for personal time and enjoyment. In his spare time, Hodges likes to sing and write songs, write screenplays and television shows, go to the movies, hang out with friends and read celebrity gossip.

Speaking of celebrities, many big names have been known to tweet at Hodges including: Toni Braxton, Kim Kardashian, Kathy Griffin and Harvey Mason (Def Jam Recordings producer). His followers include businesses such as Domino’s, Maggiano’s, and Cheesecake Factory.

After UNC, Hodges has big dreams for his future. He plans to move to Los Angeles for work and has already received very enticing job offers.

“I want an Oscar, Grammy, a star on the Walk of Fame, and a statue of myself. The ultimate goal in life is a television show,” states Hodges. “In 10 years, I will basically be Oprah…or I will just have the late night talk show.”

If you know Hodges, you will not be surprised to know that when he gets his television show, Beyoncé will be his first guest. In fact, he spent his April and May paychecks in 2012 to watch her in concert.

Hodges’ favorite spot on campus is in his room, in his bed, because it is quiet and it is his own little bubble.

His reaction when asked his favorite television show: “The Golden Girls because they are hilarious. They are life…judge me if you want.”
