Best Celebrity Gossip Blogs

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapel Hill chapter.

Whether you embrace it or not, celebrity culture has a way of seeping into your day-to-day life. It’s hard to ignore the lives of the rich and the famous; before you know it, you’ll find yourself discussing Kim Kardashian’s 72-day marriage and the Chris Brown look-alike in Rihanna’s new video. Fame captures our attention and at some point we all end up participating in celebrity gossip. We do it because we’re bored. We do it because we want to be entertained. We do it because we enjoy it, and sometimes, we just do it because we want to escape reality. Whatever the reason, celebrity gossip is a prominent part our popular American culture. Here are a few celebrity news outlets and what you need to know about them when you need your celebrity news fix. Find out which celebrity news source is right for you:

TMZ
Leading the pack of the celebrity news world is TMZ.com, a celebrity news website established by Harvey Levin. TMZ is structured like a blog featuring a combination of text, legal documents, images, video, links and polls. TMZ has garnered a reputation for breaking big celebrity news, making it an online sensation with an estimated monthly readership of 4.1 million according to Quantcast.com, a web measurement service.

The website also has a companion TV series, TMZ on TV. The show takes the same snide, candid, humorous tone as the website. TMZ is unlike your standard red carpet news outlets like People and Entertainment Weekly, in that TMZ prides itself on being uncontrollable and controversial. It provides its readers with a constant view into the life of a celebrity. So if you’re looking for an authentic, humorous and often sarcastic take on the celebrity world, TMZ is for you.

Just Jared
JustJared.com is a blog established by Jared Eng, providing pop culture trends, celebrity photo galleries and entertainment news. Just Jared is one of my favorite celebrity news sources because it is well known for posting celebrity news without judgment or nasty comments. The tone of Just Jared is positive and many celebrities have acknowledged reading the website because of its objective style of writing. So, if you’re looking for a place to read feel-good celebrity stories, check out Just Jared.

Huffington Post Celebrity
Huffington Post Celebrity is a collaboration between PopEater.com and the Huffington Post. The news site offers a dynamic mix of entertainment news, photo galleries and original reporting; alongside blogs written by entertainment experts and celebrities including Alec Baldwin, Scarlett Johansson, George Clooney, Madonna, Ryan Reynolds and Larry David. Huffington Post Celebrity is for you if you’re looking for a fresh, comprehensive take on entertainment news delivered in real time.

PopSugar
PopSugar.com is a Sugar Publishing celebrity news site based in San Francisco, California.  PopSugar publishes between 25 to 28 posts daily, Monday through Friday with a handful of new stories posted on weekends. The site’s content features celebrity news and interviews, candid photos and magazine photos shoots, event recaps, “Pop on the Street” video comments, daily features such as polls, and highlights of other gossip blogs/sites. In addition to celebrity news, PopSugar covers stories on a range of topics including fashion, beauty, sex, culture, entertainment, health, food and money.

The Hollywood Reporter
The Hollywood Reporter includes a weekly magazine, bi-monthly special reports, quarterly glossies, a website, daily news PDF, iPad app and events. According to the Hollywood Reporter, its consumers are “those who shape desire, set trends and ultimately drive culture.” The Hollywood Reporter covers subjects ranging from movies, TV and music to business and technology.
