October is National Book Month, and what better way to celebrate than visiting these local bookstores!

Flyleaf Books

Flyleaf Books is an independent bookstore located on Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Now, this may seem a little far from campus, but it’s only a bus ride away! The store is inviting, and the organization is perfect for browsing. Flyleaf is a local treasure without a doubt! Although their salesfloor is closed due to COVID, you can still order books online with shipping and curbside pickup available.

Epilogue Books Chocolate Brews

Not only is Epilogue Books Chocolate Brews right near campus on Franklin Street, but it also offers food and drinks! This independent bookstore and Spanish-style chocolatería is truly one of a kind. Epilogue is the perfect place to buy a book, a snack and read! Epilogue aims to be a place of culture, where people can gather, cultivate new ideas and escape into the welcoming atmosphere that books, chocolate and coffee all provide. Epilogue is currently open for socially distanced indoor and outdoor seating with a purchase.

Friends Book Store

This is another hit in the Chapel Hil area, located just near the cross intersection of S Estes Dr. and E Franklin St. Friends Book Store sells like new to gently used books donated by members of the community. Unfortunately, due to COVID, the bookstore is temporarily closed but they are still operating online, and you can help by buying great books and other items at bargain prices from the Friends Online Book Store and by making a donation of any size. Profits from Friends Book Store support the Chapel Hill Public Library.

Golden Fig Books

This bookstore is on the border of Chapel Hill and Durham, only about 10 minutes away from campus! If you just want to peruse books in a small, independent and well-curated bookstore rather than a megastore, this little shop fits the bill and offers used and new books. The bookstore is open to the public, and they also have online ordering and curbside pickup! Don’t miss out on Golden Fig!

 McIntyre’s

This bookstore is also not exactly in Chapel Hill but it’s only 15 minutes away from campus! Located in Fearrington Village, McIntyre’s is such a special gem! McIntyre’s has rooms organized by genre, with a Children’s corner on the right and a well-decorated room with a fireplace and comfortable sofa on the left. This is the perfect cozy bookstore to visit this fall! They are also offering curbside pickup during COVID!

Celebrate National Book Month and support local bookstores by visiting any of these stores this month!
