This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Chapel Hill chapter.

You do not need a guy to have a great Valentine’s Day! I repeat, you do not need a guy to have an awesome Valentine’s Day. Everyone knows some of the best moments in life are those shared with your closest friends. Valentine’s Day is no different. End your search for mister tall, dark and handsome, and celebrate the day of love with some of your best girl friends. Here are 5 creative ways to have a great day with some awesome friends!

1. Waltz with Cat’s Cradle
If you haven’t been to Cat’s Cradle, then Valentine’s Day is the day to visit! Known for its host of awesome concerts, this music venue will throw its first-ever Bitter Hearts Ball. Singles and couples are welcome to waltz the night away with music by Chocolate Suede. Come dressed up to the nines, or dressed down like for finals. Either way, you’ll have a great night with your best friends! Tickets are $10 for singles and $17 for pairs. Leave your boyfriend in the dorm, pair up with your best friend and hit the dance floor!

2. Night at Varsity Theatre
Are you and your friends hopeless romantics, and cannot imagine Valentine’s Day without sap? If so, then head over to Varsity Theater for a special showing of “Gone With The Wind.” This American classic tells the story of a couple caught in a turbulent romance during the Civil War and Reconstruction. It has also won 10 Academy Awards, making it one of the most popular films ever! Everyone needs to see at least one Oscar-worthy film. Why not see it with your closest friends? For $20, you can watch the film, snack on popcorn and feast on the buffet provided! Friends, tissues and food, how could you go wrong this Valentine’s Day?

3. Scandalous Viewing Party
Kerry Washington’s hit series “Scandal” has glued all of America to its couch. Both men and women tune in every Thursday to watch love, politics and deceit wreak havoc in Washington, D.C. Last week’s episode was climatic, and you would be a fool to miss this week’s show! So if going out is not an option, then stay in and host a scandalous viewing party. Invite your closest friends over and do what all bad girls do: eat lots of chocolate! Melt the devil in the Hershey’s wrapper and dip whatever your heart desires into it. It’s the best way to watch the hit series and be as daring as Olivia Pope!

4. Secret Valentine
Who said secret Santa is only for December? Change up this Christmas tradition and share secret Valentines with your girl friends! Starting on Sunday, pick the name of one of your closest friends from a hat. Throughout the week, reveal your identity with a series of clues. Everyone will reveal herself on Valentine’s Day and exchange gifts. It’s a super easy and cute way to show your love for your best friend. Not to mention it’ll be picture worthy, the best addition to your collegiette scrapbook!

5. Be Someone Else’s Valentine
At Carolina, life is all about leaving your heelprint. So what better way to leave your mark than to spend your Valentine’s Day with those in need of a little TLC. Volunteering on Valentine’s Day is the sweetest, as well as the most rewarding, gift you can experience with friends. There are a number of local organizations you can to volunteer with nearby. Maybe you can pay a visit to the N.C. Children’s Hospital and make cards for its patients. You can visit the local nursing home and listen to the love stories of the past. Or, you can cuddle with animals in dire need of a home. These volunteer opportunities are priceless, and so are the moments with your friends!
