What is your connection with CCCU?

I graduated from CCCU in September with a First in Performing Arts.

What does it feel like to being an Alum?

It feels a bit scary to be out in ‘the real world’ and not being a student any more.

What’s the biggest difference now you have graduated?

I am no longer working towards my degree, but trying to start my career in the performing arts industry.  I have to create opportunities for myself, rather than having them given to me by the university – it’s a lot of responsibility!!

Do you still work closely with the university?

Yes, I recently put on my Directing and Devising piece, Strings Attached, again with co-creator Siân Williams at the University, this time as part of the Canterbury Fringe Festival.  I am also part of the newly formed CCCU Alumni theatre company, Cut Feather Theatre.

Are you still performing?

Yes, I am currently rehearsing for a pantomime with my amateur dramatics company, Theatrecraft.  We are performing Cinderella at the King’s Hall in Herne Bay in January 2015, and I am part of the chorus and dance team – it is good fun!

What inspired you to perform as a child?

I began ballet lessons at the age of 2 and, as a shy child, dancing became a way for me to release my true outgoing personality!  I have a vivid imagination so performing has always been my escape into a different world.

Are you working on any projects at the minute?

I am currently working on the first production for Cut Feather Theatre – a short Christmas family musical called The Sparkle Thief.  I am the Company Stage Manager and I am also performing in the first and last scenes as an elf!  The company is made up of graduates from CCCU and it is an exciting opportunity for us to gain some professional experience to help us in future projects!  Although it is hard work putting an original show together, I am positive that it will be very successful!  Do visit our website for more details: www.thesparklethief.com

Do you have any advice for other students and first years?

Have fun and enjoy the social life that comes with being at university, but remember that you are there to get a degree that will enhance your career prospects.  Do the work early so that you can relax afterwards, rather than doing all-nighters and rushing to get the work done – it will reduce stress levels!  Try to put 100% into each piece of work you do because then you will know that you have done your best and will come out with a degree you are proud of!  But most importantly, your time at University will fly by so make the most of it!!  You will make friends for life throughout these three years so cherish the memories and enjoy yourself!!

Thank you Nicola! If you would like to nominate anyone for Campus Celeb tell us at @HerCampusCCCU!
