Recently, Her Campus CAU got sent yet another wonderful survival kit from nationals. This winter based survival kit featured various products catering towards skin care, beauty, fashion and even a DIY tool. These products were sent in from #ActuallySheCan, Being, Le Motto, Alba Botanica, Krazy Glue, and Tarte.Winter break is approaching fast and it is the perfect time to de-stress yourself from all the hard work you did this semester. Below are our thoughts on the items sent to us that will be used definitely be used throughout winter break and possibly onward.
Tarte Tarteist Pro Palette
Tarteist Pro is available online at tarte.com and in store at Sephora and Ulta. The palette is described as “A pro-level, everyday eyeshadow palette with 20 ultra-pigmented shades powered by naturally-derived ingredients.” Within the 20 shades there are 16 matte shadows and 4 “iridescent luster shades with a micro-shimmer, duochrome formula”. It retails for $53.
Over the holiday break I used the palette to create a soft halo eye. For those who do not know, a halo eye is an eyeshadow look in which the outer and inner corner or your lid are darker than the center. I chose to do this look to get a chance to work with the “iridescent luster shades” that are the stand out points of this palette.

To create this eye look I first primed my lid with the urban decay eyeshadow primer. I then proceeded to clean up my brows and used the Maybelline fit me concealer all over the eye to create a smooth base. I set this base with Classic, the first cream color in the palette. I then used Bold, a light brown color in my crease as a transition shade. Next I used Innocent, a soft peach color on the outer and inner corner of my eye. After that I used Edgy, a chocolate brown to deepen the darkness in the crease. I finally used Glam,the champagne iridescent shade on a wet brush and placed it on the middle of my lid. I finished the eye look off highlighting my brow bone with Vintage, the ivory color at the top of the palette.
This look came out very soft and therefore it was perfect for Thanksgiving dinner with my family. The shadow lasted all night on my eyes, despite my skin being very oily. The colors were easy to work with both individually as well as blending into each other. The only thing I am not a fan of regarding this palette is the consistency of the iridescent shades. The formula is similar to the matte shades making them powdery and therefore they did not give the same effect as they appear to in the swatches provided to us by Tarte. However, this issue is an easy fix by apply water to your brush and then apply the shadow. I give this palette a 4.5 rating. Due to the fact that it is long wearing and comes with various every day shadows. The matte shadows are easy to work with and give you the option to intensify any look at hand. Tarte as always came through with not only quantity but quality as well.

With this look I used the Tarte Pro palette. I used Edgy for my crease, Bold underneath Edgy, and Ethic in the center of my lid. I used Glam to add a bit of sparkle into the look. On my lashes of course I used the amazing Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4-in-1 mascara for such a full and lengthy look on my lashes. The palette works well on people of color and it provides an amazing warm look perfect for winter.
The Tarte Pro palette is an amazing palette overall. It works for all shades. It can provide easy to go makeup looks but can also give you that wow going out look as well. I am absolutely in love with this palette and this will definitely be one of my most used palettes. This is a huge must in our HerCampus Survival Kit. Thank you so much for this Tarte. This is an A+ in our book.
Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes Mascara
This mascara was a lovely companion to the Tarteist Pro Palette. It is formulated to thicken and curl lashes with its “magniLASH” wand. This accompanied my (Miranda’s) Thanksgiving eye look. It gave my lashes volume and curl which lasted all night. I can see myself using this mascara on any type of makeup look from natural to glam because the longevity is uncanny.
Being Face Masks
These face masks were sent to us in two different versions; charcoal and manuka honey clay. The charcoal mask is catered toward all skin types while the manuka honey is catered toward oily skin. Both masks worked wonders on my skin this week. The charcoal mask cleared up my large pores. The manuka honey clay mask absorbed excess oil on my skin and made it feel tight and rejuvenated. These masks are perfect to use as winter temperatures take a toll on your skin.
Being by Sanctuary Spa Salted Caramel & Macadamia Hand Cream
This hand cream is beautifully scented. When selling it I sense more vanilla than the labeled salted caramel or macadamia. The hand lotion is perfectly sized for any small bag and therefore super convenient. I, however, do not think it provides sufficient moisture. I find myself constantly reapplying when I am on the go. It is a bit frustrating due to the fact that winter winds are typically cold and dry leaving most of us with dry hands to tend to.
#ActuallySheCan T-Shirt
Actually She Can is a community designed to guide, empower, and encourage women to pursue the life they choose.” That is the motto of this amazing organization. They sent us a couple of shirts with some cute, motivational words on them such as “Less Drama, More Karma #ActuallySheCan”. The organization teamed up with Le Motto to produce these tshirts. The cotton is amazing and soft. It can also be paired with a cute leather jacket and booties. Throw on your favorite scarf and you’re good to go! It’s a real simple and easy add to a look. It has so much versatility as well. Perhaps you want to use it to work out. Pair it with some of your favorite yoga pants and it works just like that. Overall, this is one of my favorite things we received in the kit.
Krazy Glue
Where can you go wrong with a bit of Krazy Glue? It provides a hold that any competing glue cannot compete with. You must get you a travel size because you never know when you’ll need to fix something up. Perhaps you break for favorite keychain and a piece falls off. No problem, you’ll have your Krazy Glue by your side to make sure you don’t lose it wherever you’re at. It’s so simple but such a huge necessity. Thank you Krazy Glue for this amazing add on.
Alba Botanica Fast Fix
Alba Botanica is an absolute must for us. Protecting us in the morning right before class! If you have allergies and your eyes seem to puff up, this gel is amazing. This product is also vegetarian so that’s a plus. With the combination of cucumber, green tea, and caffeine it energizes you and wakes you up on those tough days. For use gently take your fingers and dab a small amount around your eye. You will feel better almost immediately. This will come in handy during finals for sure. Thank you so much for this game changing gel.
