Have you guys ever heard of Ashevile? No, not Nashville, but ASHEville. It’s a city in North Carolina. It is the largest city in Western North Carolina and the 12th-most populous city in the U.S. states. I wanted to highlight Asheville because I want people to know that this city is far from average and often under looked.

I think Asheville is “country,” socially. Then again, it is in the country. My first time visiting Asheville was when I was 17 years old. My mother had moved there after being in Connecticut for so many years. She randomly picked Asheville as a place it to live and of course after doing research. I had never heard of the town before, but I knew that it was soon going to be a place that I would be very familiar with.

Asheville is a very beautiful place. Not only from the gorgeous mountains and waterfalls but this city has but also has amazing people. From what I’ve seen of the city, the majority of the population are Whites and some Blacks, not many. But all the people I’ve met in this city are great. Other than the fact the only person I know is my mother. This past summer when I was there for three weeks I met people around my age who weren’t that bad.

At first, I was pretty skeptical about this city, because of the animals. They have bears, snakes, wild turkey’s, fruit-eating piranha in their waters. The list goes on for what is exactly in those Asheville woods and waters, but I know that I stay inside.

Majority of the people who reside in Asheville are vegan. Just about every restaurant you go to in the city has a vegan option. Asheville residents love their dogs too! There hasn’t been a time I was there and not see someone walk their dog(s). While walking their dog they will stop and let you (the driver) pass by and they’ll wave at you with a smile. While their dogs are sitting next to them with their mouth wide open and tongue hanging also with the tail wagging a mile a minute. Those dogs are always happy.

There is always a festival going on downtown, hundreds of people walking around with their beer probably walking their dogs. Music is always being played, it’s probably someone you don’t know on that stage with the guitar playing. But you’ll stand them and enjoy the Asheville weather and people.

One historical place in Asheville is the Biltmore Estates. I visited this place during Christmas Time. It’s supposed to be one of the best times to go, which is true, I had a great time. Biltmore House, the fundamental living arrangement, is a Châteauesque-style chateau worked for George Washington Vanderbilt II somewhere in the range of 1889 and 1895 and is the biggest exclusive house in the United States, at 178,926 square feet of floor space. Still possessed by George Vanderbilt’s relatives, it stays one of the most unmistakable instances of Gilded Age chateaus.

The house was huge! Biltmore has four acres of floor space and 250 rooms in the house, including 35 bedrooms for family and guests, 43 bathrooms, 65 fireplaces, three kitchens and 19th-century novelties such as electric elevators, forced-air heating, centrally controlled clocks, fire alarms, and a call-bell system. It was amazing walking through the Biltmore because so much history happened and the amount of time it took it to build that place is incredible.

I haven’t seen all of Asheville but I do plan on seeing more whenever I do go back. It’s a city that people should visit. If you’re trying to get away to a calm city and be around genuine good people that love having a good time, Asheville is the place to go.
