SZA Performs Platinum Singles “The Weekend” and “Love Galore” on Saturday Night Live

2017’s breakout R&B artist, SZA, has made it very clear that this is her year. Her album “CTRL” was certified Gold in just 4 months, two of the album’s singles, Love Galore and The Weekend are both certified Platinum and she’s recently been nominated for 5 different Grammy categories. Just last Saturday she was the musical guest on America’s favorite late-night show, Saturday Night Live, alongside James Franco who hosted the episode.

SZA performed her popular singles, Love Galore and The Weekend with the support of a gospel choir backing her on stage. It’s no longer considered strange for artists who are nowhere close to being in the gospel genre to have gospel choirs singing backup. Artists such as J. Cole, DVSN, Kanye, Chance The Rapper, Common, and many others have taken advantage of the opportunity and it always seems to work– making the artists performances even more powerful. You can watch SZA perform The Weekend on SNL here.

As opposed to cutting her performance of Love Galore short, being that Travis Scott was not there to perform his verse, SZA performed an unreleased verse that went viral not too long ago. Fans are now hoping that since she performed the unreleased verse on SNL, she’d now be willing to officially release the version of the song that contains the verse. You can watch her performance here.

It’s clear that SZA has planted a seed in the music industry and she won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. If the rumors are true, SZA has already started working on a new project with Mark Ronson and Kevin Parker of Tame Impala. We’re not too sure when we’re going to be getting this gem, but it’s definitely something we’re looking forward to.

If you’ve yet to listen to SZA’s CTRL album, or if you just want to hear it again for old time’s sake, listen here on Spotify!
