Rashida Williamson, Miss Sophomore 2015-2016

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CAU chapter.

Name: Rashida Williamson

Hometown: Irmo, South Carolina

Major: Political Science

Classification: Sophomore

IG/Twitter: IG: @rashiduhhh

Turn-ons: Confidence, Ambition, Clean, Adventurous, Socially aware (involved in politics and around the world news so I can learn from him)

Turn offs: Lack of style (not able to dress like a classic man), not groomed and unable to switch off between being a businessman and the thug lifestyle.

Dream job: To work in the White House

Dream date: It would be a surprise. He would come to the house and says get dressed and we’re leaving. Head to the Apache café in downtown Atlanta, listen to music, poetry and have dinner. Later on take me to a small gathering with a couple of friends and dance. Then take me to the rooftop, look at the stars, listen to music and talk all night.

What’s at the top of your bucket list? Jump out of a plane.

What/who inspires you? My mom because I lived in a single parent and I had to grow up quick and learn right from wrong. She was a businesswoman and was able to get the job done in a timely fashion and is a well-known person.

One thing you can’t leave the house without: My cell phone because it has my whole schedule, homework, my music to focus, my notes to help me study and my contacts.

Favorite quote: “You may not be thinking about politics but politics is thinking about you”-Kerry Washington

Hobbies: write poetry, play tennis and singing

Why CAU? I chose CAU because of its rich history. The school is small, family oriented and it’s the four-year liberal arts institution and first masters program in the AUC.

Organizations on campus: Political Science Association, Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity International, CAU Royal Court, Volleyball team (14-15), Red Black and Gray Leadership Series (14-15), Isabella T. Jenkins Honors Program

Why did you choose your major? I chose my major because with political science I’m more analytical. As a campaign manager, I help my person with marketing and putting out for the media what should be best for my person. In my internship, I work the background and helping him in his campaign.

One piece of advice:

for women: Hearing the click of your heels on the hardwood floor means you can accomplish anything

for men: Walking with your head held high with a suit on means you can conquer anything

What was your platform and what events have you done with it? E.M.P.I.R.E. (Establishing and Making by Pursuing Intelligence and Representing Excellence) As a class, we are to rise like the Romans did at CAU and in the AUC by showing our intelligence. The events I have done were the Royal Entertainment AUC Rap Battle and Back II Black that had performers inform the audience about black history and enriching black pride.

Future or Drake: Drake

Fetty Wap or Young Thug: Fetty Wap

Most anticipated event on campus this semester: Spring Elections because during the week free food is passed out, you get to see people who want to do something on campus and the dirty politics.

How has being on the Royal Court changed your experience here at CAU? I’m more of a people person. Now walking down on the promenade, I’m smiling, waving and talking to everyone. Anyone needing advice and getting that experience, I can help them achieve it.

If you could hangout with a celebrity for a day who would it be and what would y’all be doing? Jimmy Hendrix, a groundbreaker when it came to Rock n Roll; 1st African American musician to play the guitar. What we would be doing is travel with him during his daily life and experience it.

What were your plans for spring break? I stayed in Atlanta to work under the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus Internship Program under Senator Michael Doc Rhett.

What is your experience working with Senator Rhett? I got the chance to write resolutions that reposed to constituent letters on issues. I also wrote in community meetings and meet state legislatures that will help me in my career.

What are your goals for junior year?

  • Work in the Governor’s Office in the Fall
  • Dean’s List again
  • More involved in CAU’s organizations
