2021 has been packed with many music releases that have been taking over the charts. April has been a month filled with many bops to help us transition into the summer. Here are some projects released Friday, April 16th that deserve a listen!

Pretty Summer Playlist: Season 1- Saweetie.

This is the first multi-track project Saweetie has put out since 2019. According to her Instagram, an installment of The Pretty Summer Playlist will be put out annually and will “[feature] upcoming artists who are up next.” The album features artists, Drakeo The Ruler, BabyAfrika, Loui, and Lourdie.

There are some slower songs, hyphy songs (as the Bay Area native Saweetie likes to say) , and some remixes. Saweetie serves up some in-your-face bars on Baby Afrika’s song “Baby Momma Coochie.” She also delivers some shade to her ex-boo Quavo in Kendra Jae’s song “See Saw,” by saying “…ain’t the woman that you thought. But you was humpin’ thots, fuckin’ narcissist you just mad you got caught…” There is also some just all-around feel-good music that just makes you want to shake a lil’ some like “Sweat Check.” This was one of my favorite projects that came out last week.

Slime Language 2 (SL2) – Young Stoner Life Records (YSL)

This has been one of the most anticipated projects from Young Thug and YSL since the First Slime Language in 2018. The album offers Beat switches, elite features, diverse musical pairings, and Wheezy-made beats! SL2 showcases the YSL label and the artists that are signed to it.

The album features the YSL artists Hidorah, T-Shyne, FN DaDealer, Yung Kayo, Strick, Dolly White, YTB Trench, Karlae, Lil Duke, Yak Gotti, Unfroonk, Lil Keed, Gunna, and of course Young Thug. It also packed with other artists NAV, Future, Lil Baby, Drake, Lil Uzi Vert, Coi Leray, and more.

Before Friday’s release, songs “Take It to Trial,” “That Go,” and “Ski” had been previewed earlier this year. The album highlights how YSL is able to mix versatile sounds in order to produce stank-face inciting music.  Songs that stuck out, in particular, were “Ski” (produced by Wheezy of course!), “Pots N’ Pans,” “Paid The Fine” and “Came out.” This Slime Season was definitely different from the first, and fans made sure to let that be known.

Almost Woke- Lucki

The Chicago native releases yet another EP since 2020. The last full-length project in 2020. This was a surprise from the rapper and he is leaving fans waiting for more.

Almost Woke features the two songs “Lifestyle Brazy (Produced by Brent Lambo),” and “No Joke(Produced by Plu20 Nash).” The two songs feature two different sounds. Lifestyle Brazy is more uptempo, while “No Joke” is the slower of the two. Anticipation for a new album is rising, and fans are ready. Lucky has been consistently producing solid bodies of work, and Almost Woke is just the tip of the iceberg.

April 16th offered a variety of sounds from multiple different artists and sounds. This list is only a few of what Friday had to offer. This summer is going to be packed with hits for us to ride out to, and it couldn’t be sweeter! is only 4 months into the new year, and more heat is still to come!
