It’s Easy To Fall Under But Don’t

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at CAU chapter.

Imagine stepping into a different dimension, all of the colors swirling around and you’re stripping yourself layer by layer of what you once knew. Exposed to new surroundings and energies, all of them waiting for you to absorb.

That’s what college is.

Whether it be knowingly or unknowingly; picking up different traits will be the inevitable.

College is the place where you find yourself, or at least some pieces and fragments. This is the place where you throw the expectations placed on you from your guardians into the wind and step into a place full of possibility, opportunity, and inspiration but I’d be lying if there wasn’t a flipside of becoming a young adult in this world.

The quick  transition into adult life can make it easy to get lost in the moment. In society, many people would rather portray a persona than live in their truth; you will come across a magnitude of people like this in college. The new profoundness of independence college gives you can become dangerous if not used properly.

In college, choosing your inner circle is an important task; the individuals you choose to be around will have a great impact on your character. At this age and time, you do not want to be around only ‘yes men’ because it is a crucial time for growth and expanding our horizons, no one needs someone who will only stay within their comfort zone and let us stay in ours.

College can become a sour road quickly because of the consequence on the line, one of them being expulsion from the institution. A prime example of lick better friends is when you have a professor that you do not necessarily align with, which is okay because there will be multiple occasions where you will not mesh with another individual, but in this case your teacher is your authoritative. College is a whole different ballpark then high school or elementary school, with past education institutions you can get kicked out or exploded with little to none cost to you but in college it is going to make you lose every last penny. That is why you cannot have individuals around you that will let you put your future on the line  just because you do not like the teacher. True friends would help each other learn the subject and take the time to be better students, not leave one of the members out to dry because it’s “funny” to disrespect the teacher.

There will be many influences in college but it is up to you to decide who and what you want to become.
