Let’s discuss revenge! The definition of revenge is the action of inflicting hurt or harm on someone for an injury or wrong suffered at their hands. Now I’ve already talked about one of the best revenge movie known to man, which was Kill Bill. But I think it’s time we talk about another Quentin Tarantino gem. Death Proof (2007).

Three friends, Arlene, Shanna and radio DJ “Jungle” Julia Lucai, drive down Congress Avenue in Austin, Texas on their approach to celebrate Julia’s birthday. In a bar, Julia announces that she made an offering on the radio, a free lap dance from Arlene on the return for her as “Butterfly”, getting her a beverage and reciting a segment of the poem “Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening”. Aging Hollywood stunt double “Stuntman” Mike trails the women to a bar and claims the lap dance. Arlene is suspicious, having seen Mike’s car earlier that day, but he convinces her to give him the lap dance.

The ladies get ready to leave with Lanna, another friend. Pam, Julia’s old classmate, acknowledges Mike’s idea of a ride home. Mike takes Pam to his Hollywood stunt vehicle fixed with a moving pen and reveals to her the vehicle is “passing verification”, however just for the driver. He speeds and hammers on the brakes, crushing Pam’s skull on the dashboard, murdering her. He makes up for lost time with the ladies’ vehicle and crashes into it at rapid, killing them. Mike survives with no genuine damage. Sheriff McGraw trusts Mike slaughtered the ladies deliberately, but since Mike was calm while the ladies were inebriated, he can’t be charged.

This movie is in two parts, the first part of the movie is just really an explanation of who Stuntman Mike is and also showing that he is crazy. The movie goes into depth on every scene. I mean what do you expect, it’s Quentin Tarantino.

After fourteen months, three young ladies, Abernathy Ross, Kim Mathis, and Lee Montgomery, are driving through Lebanon, Tennessee. They stop at a comfort store, where Mike watches them from his vehicle. The ladies get their friend, stuntwoman  Zoë Bell, from the airport while Mike photographs them unawares. Zoë reveals to them she needs to test-drive a 1970 Dodge Challenger, a similar kind of vehicle from the 1971 film Vanishing Point, available to be purchased adjacent. The owner gives them a chance to test drive it unsupervised after Abernathy reveals to him Lee is a pornography star and will remain behind.

Zoë tells Abernathy and Kim that she needs to play a game they call “Ship’s Mast”, whereby she rides the hood holding belts affixed to the vehicle while Kim drives at speed. Kim is reluctant yet concurs. The three appreciate the trick, unconscious that Mike is watching them. He backsides them in his vehicle, causing Zoë to unintentionally drop one of her and Abernathy’s belts. After a few additional impacts, he T-bones them, tossing Zoë from the hood. Kim shoots Mike’s left shoulder and he escapes in his vehicle. Abernathy and Kim cry over the loss of their friend until Zoë rises unharmed. The three consent to get up to speed to Mike and murder him.

Mike has stopped on a narrow road to treat his wound with whiskey. The women rear-end him at speed. Zoë gets out and beats him with a pipe, but he resists and drives off again. After a long chase, the women push Mike’s car off the road. They drag him from the wreckage and beat him to death.

Unlike Kill Bill, this revenge movie isn’t over the course of years and killing many people just to get to one person. This movie is considered one of Tarantino’s worst but I most definitely think this movie is the greatest. It’s completely different from any of his other movies. With a strong female cast that whoops a grown mans behind! This movie is hilarious and has quotes that I say everyday. This is another one of my must watches.
