What Xtina and Demi are Actually Talking About on the Song ‘Fall in Line’?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Casper Libero chapter.

Demi Lovato and Christina Aguilera recorded a song together called ‘Fall in line’. Both are inspirational singers, who are literally using their powerful voices to say something significant. The lyric is extremely empowering, bringing strong traits of encouragement and support to women. The music video is equally intense as it contains references that allow for many different interpretations.

The production introduces two little girls playing in the garden when two grown men steal them. Next, the place where they have been imprisoned for years is presented. They’re surrounded by an extreme and claustrophobic vigilance. This may refer to the link between the clip and the Disney channel, where both worked from their early childhoods until their youth.

The actors that appear in the video look very much like Disney’s directors Kelly Ward and Matthew Diamond, who have already worked with Demi and Xtina. Besides that, Demi makes very similar poses that of her old character from Camp Rock. All of this makes us believe that they’re denouncing possible abuses in the channel’s backstage production.

Above all else, they’re talking mainly about solidarity. It is lovely to see that the two are supporting each other’s career, showing that women don’t have to compete, even if they work in the same industry. Demi is currently presenting her “Tell me you love me” tour and Christina just released a new album called Liberation. On social media, both artists released their new work in a generous and altruistic way.

By the way, the track 5 of Liberation, named “Dreamers”, is a super cute intro to Fall in Line that shows young girls saying what they want to do when grow up and declaring that they will make themselves heard. Because in the end, the most important message is that “in this world you are not beholden and you do not owe them your body and your soul”.
