After five long months of study, tests and group projects, a break is always welcome. And if you don’t want to spend your entire vacation scrolling on social media, here are some ideas on what you should do during your college break!
Try hobbies
A hobby is any activity that brings you joy in your free time, from cooking to painting. If you want to improve your creativity and reduce your screen time, a hobby is the perfect pastime for you.
There are many ways to start a hobby or improve an old one. You can search for new recipes online or ask your family for old ones, try to write a cool story, paint in coloring books, or draw cool things in your sketchbook.
You can also try new poses for photography or try playing a musical instrument. You don’t need to go out to learn or do any of these things, you can watch YouTube videos and learn on your own!
Go out with your friends
During our busy college routine, we don’t get in touch with our friends as much; that’s why your college break is the perfect time to spend quality time together!
Simple ideas can be the best ones to try with your friends, like having a game or movie night, cooking dinner together, going on a picnic, and playing sports in a park. If you have friends who live far away, you can try virtual meetings to play an online game or create your own book club together.
Read books
Have you stopped reading because of a reading slump or a book hangover? This might be the perfect opportunity to use your college break to update your reading list.
If you don’t have any ideas about what to read, you can start a new book series, such as the major New York Times bestsellers’ The Hunger Games, The Lord of the Rings, The Chronicles of Narnia or Harry Potter. If you already like any of these books, you can also watch the movies and compare which one you liked the most!
Don’t forget to look out for promotions or free books if you use Kindle, as they always have classics available for a very good and affordable price.
Explore your city
Over the semester, we often fail to explore places that seem obvious but go unnoticed in our daily lives. So, my advice is: be a tourist in your own city.
Go to museums, exhibitions, public libraries and parks. Go to new coffee shops with your friends or try some new restaurants.
In São Paulo, you can find many places to visit; the most popular are: MASP (São Paulo Museum of Art), Ibirapuera Park, Liberdade neighborhood, Japan House, Farol Santander (Santander Lighthouse), Beco do Batman (Batman Alley), or Museu do Ipiranga (Ipiranga Museum). And the good news is: most of these attractions are free, and others tend to carry affordable ticket prices!
