What Does the New MPB Have? Meet 4 Brazilian Artists

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Casper Libero chapter.

The newest generation of Brazilian Popular Music, more known as MPB, has gained more and more emphasis on the music scene. Year after year, new artists are released and conquer the heart of the Brazilian public with their lyrics and melodies. More than chords that fall in the popular taste, they leave their mark where they pass.

Between combinations of arrangements and rhythms, the songs, as well as their creators, shows, more and more, the innovation of style. All this happens in a mix of Bossa Nova by João Gilberto and Tom Jobim, Tropicália by Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil and the new rhythms starred by folk, pop, rock, indie and rap.

The new artists bring the essence of what MPB has become. Far beyond the most current references, with modern notions about society and its events, they embrace a reflection of what Brazil is: an intense mixture not only of arrangements and rhythms, but also of people, words and ideas.
