The 2023 Oscars took place on Sunday, March 12th, in Los Angeles, California. The glamorous event is a very important opportunity for studios to promote their new releases and rising stars — but also for the fashion world to showcase its latest trends.

If the Academy rewarded Everything Everywhere All at Once’s imaginative multiverse with the largest number of awards, on the Red Carpet (which, spoiler alert: wasn’t red), the guests opted for classic designs with hints of contemporary boldness.

White was the most popular color among the dresses (for a moment, I thought I was watching an episode of Say Yes To Dress). However, red, black, pink and purple also had their time to shine. Valentino was the brand chosen by many celebrities. We’ve separated some of our favorite looks from the evening. Check them out.

Florence Pugh

Spotted in almost every red carpet in recent weeks, Pugh, Aka Miss Flo, chose a model from Valentino’s 23 Spring collection for the Academy Awards. With a beige strapless top that develops into a large tail, the look innovates with shorts at the bottom. She complimented it with jewelry from Tiffany & Co. The hairstyle of choice, a stylish ponytail with short bangs, gave immediate Audrey Hepburn vibes.

Tems

The Nigerian singer wore a white puffy dress from Lever Couture’s 23 Spring collection. The garment’s light fabric, similar to a tulle, ensured a very delicate wavy look to the outfit. It also stood out because of its very large headpiece. Tems was nominated for the song Lift Me Up, which she composed alongside Rihanna for the movie  Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Rihanna

Pregnant Riri showed up late in an Alaïa dress. The singer’s outfit was certainly one of the most beautiful on the carpet: Its structure, with leather bands overlapping a thin fabric, greatly valued the mama’s silhouette. We also have to mention her incredible hairstyle!

Emily Blunt

If the theme this year was wedding dresses (and apparently it was), Emily Blunt completely nailed it. But seriously, the A Quiet Place’s star looked dazzling in a minimalist Valentino gown. The purple earrings gave it a beautiful contrast as well.

Hong Chau

Pretty in Pink! Hong Chau wore a Prada dress for her first Oscars. The Thai actress, nominated in the Best Actress in a Supporting Role Category for The Whale, looked gorgeous with this very chic choice of garment.

Angela Bassett

The Queen of Wakanda looked incredible in a Moschino by Jeremy Scott model. With a classic silhouette, the dress stood out in a lively purple tone. Basset was nominated as Best Supporting Actress for her role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Ana De Armas

The Cuban star looked extremely beautiful in a silver custom Louis Vuitton dress. She was nominated in the Best Actress in a Leading Role Category for Blonde. It’s impossible not to get Marilyn inspo from this outfit.

Stephanie Hsu

Joy from Everything Everywhere All at Once, interpreted by Stephanie Hsu appeared stunning in a pink dress from Valentino‘s Spring 23 collection. We just loved this look for her! She was nominated as Best Supporting Actress, however, lost to co-star Jamie Lee Curtis.

Elizabeth Olsen

The Marvel star chose a black dress from Givenchy’s 23 Fall collection for the award show. She matched it with a low bun and red lips, adding an even classier look to the outfit. Olsen is set to star in HBO’s new series Love & Death, releasing April 27.
