Get to know “Steal The Look”

STL is a website created by Manu Bordasch and Cata Dieterich that mixes fashion, beauty and e-commerce. The innovation? It was the first Brazilian online page to offer content for users to buy. So if you want to know what Kendall Jenner or Selena Gomez are wearing now – and copy looks or try to find similar clothes of a lot of celebrities –, STL is the right place for you!

What inspired you to create the “Steal The Look” website? How was the begging of everything?

Manuela Bordasch: I was finishing college [Manu graduated in International Relations]  and the idea came up when I was about to do my final course assignment. The subject was “Brazilian fast fashion” and at the time I realized that none website or blog related to this area offered the possibility to do online shopping and buy similar clothes to the pictures that were posted – they didn’t linked the product to sell it. That’s when I started thinking about creating a website that could inspire women and be a space where people are able to immediately buy the clothes that are presented to them.

So, in 2012, Cata [Catharina Dieterich, also founder of STL] and I decided to create the “Steal The Look” website, to get together all the things we felt were missing.

How does “Steal The Look” work?

MN: We have daily posts in which we direct our readers to online shopping. It is a content website, where everything you see you can buy. The thing that makes it different is that we think about every woman, every age and every social class. But specially young women, that see STL as a source of inspiration and a tool that makes the consume of fashion something easier.

Do you girls have a routine?

MN: Every day is different and dynamic. Sometimes, when the day is quiet, I stay more at my computer. We also show our daily looks at Instagram or Snapchat and the things that came to the office [that is located in São Paulo] through mail. Besides that, travelling is also good. When we go the Fashion Week, for example, it’s a great source of inspiration – speaking of the runaways and also the street style.

What advice would you give a 20-something with similar aspirations?

MN: Always look for innovation and originality. If you don’t do it, someone is going to do it at some point. I see a lot of people giving up on their projects, I would say for you to believe in your ideas!
