Manhattan’s scandalous elite is about to debut! After a long suspense, the reboot of the beloved series “Gossip Girl” airs on HBO Max, on July 8th of this year. The mystery doesn’t end there, a teaser was recently released and left the audience even more curious to know what will happen with the new characters.

The teaser shows all the protagonists in an elite party with stunning looks, lots of drinking and lots of secrets being shared. The iconic voice of Kristen Bell, the narrator of the original series, will be back and was very prominent in the released video. The teaser also shows phones beeping with the news from the enigmatic “Gossip Girl”, which is well up-to-date with new social media. The video ends with the narrator’s remarkable line “You know you love me…”

Many believe that it’s a redesign of the original series, however Joshua Safran, creator and show runner of the show, commented that this is not a reboot, after all the new characters will be inserted in the same context as the original series. The series will take place in the same environments as the Upper East Side, but 8 years later. New subjects will be addressed, such as social media and their impact on people’s lives. The show will have 10 episodes that will be between 45 and 55 minutes long each, and we still don’t have confirmation of a second season. The creators of the series said in an interview that they are very proud of this work, because they missed, in the first version, more diversity in the characters and this reboot promises more inclusion.

The new characters will be played by actors such as Thomas Doherty, Whitney Peak, Eli Brown, Jordan Alexander, Savannah Lee Smith, Evan Mock and Zión Moreno. They will be the new people that the girl of the blog will be watching, and she has adapted to modern technology, using social media to make her scandalous posts. Another name confirmed to play in the show is Eric Daman, the costume designer responsible for the striking clothes of Blair and Serena. So we can expect a lot of luxury and style in this new cycle.

In this new elite, the old characters, Blair, Serena, Chuck, Nate and Dan will be remembered. In an interview with Vanity Fair, the actress Leighton Meester, who brought Blair to life, said: “I think I heard this [meeting talk] in fits and starts here and there, but it’s hard to say. […] If everyone was in it and if the timing was right, you know? I don’t want to say: ‘No, never…’ But it would be an honor. I’m ready”. And the actor Ed Westwick, who played heartthrob Chuck Bass, said in an interview with Access Hollywood that he was excited about the reboot: “I think it would be a really cool idea. I haven’t been approached about it. This is very much it’s own thing and I wish them all the best. I’m very excited to see what they do . I’ve been in touch with the creators just wishing them the best, Josh [Safran] and Stephanie [Savage]. I know they are excited. Look, I mean, I would never say no, but at this moment there’s nothing to report.”

If we’re going to see the beloved characters in this reboot we’re not sure, but what will happen to the newest elite in Manhattan, as Gossip Girl once said “It’s a secret that I’ll never tell”.

XOXO
