Get To Know Taylor Jenkins Reid

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Casper Libero chapter.

A Hollywood star from the ’60s who was married seven times. A band from the ’70s that ended up after their first show together. A party that changes everything. Taylor Jenkins Reid is not simply a writer. She is a storyteller. Her characters are alive, human, tangible. They are real. Here are some information about the author – if you don’t know who she is yet.

The beginning

The Sagittarius Taylor was born in 1983, in Massachusetts. She started her career in film production, working as a casting assistant for three years – from this, we can understand where Evelyn Hugo came from! While working at a high school, she began to write part-time, and this led her to get a book deal for her first novel, Forever, interrupted, in 2013.

The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo and other books

After four years and three other books, in 2017, her best-known book, The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, was published. It was dynamite! The novel was nominated for Goodreads Choice Award for “Best Historical Fiction” and was one of the finalists for the Book of the Month’s Book of the Year award, all still in 2017.

Her sixth book, Daisy Jones & the Six was launched in 2019 and is being developed into a miniseries by Amazon Studios. And, finally, in 2021, the most recent book by Taylor came to life: Malibu Rising.

The eras

Taylor is said by the fans to have two “eras” in her work: The pre-Evelyn Hugo Era– Forever, Interrupted (2013), After I do (2014), Maybe in Another Life (2015) and One True Loves (2016)–, and the Evelyn Hugo Era, with her last three books. That is because the second one has by main characters famous people, as Evelyn and Daisy, which does not happen in the first novels.

This is why you should add Taylor’s writings to your list

If you have never read anything by Taylor, I strongly recommend you to do so: her writing creates not only a different perspective for something that you thought you knew but it takes you into that world – the stinky and ugly world of fame. The number of people who search for her characters’ names on the internet to find out if they really existed is huge!

Moreover, the flaws and virtues of the characters she creates differ them from any others you may read about: they are human and they are neither perfect nor terrible people, and you might do whatever you desire with this information – hate or love them. She is brilliant. Therefore, her readers are looking forward to her last launch, Malibu Rising: will it be as amazing as the others? The people described are also famous but will they be as shocking as the others? Coming from Taylor, there is no way to expect less.
