The Black Panther movie was released last month and is already a huge success. Marvel’s new production surprised the viewers by bringing a predominantly black cast, free of stereotypes and without the typical whiteness of Hollywood.

For those who have not seen the movie, Black Panther is a direct sequel to Captain America: Civil War, which recounts the return to Wakanda T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) after the death of his father. He needs to take over once again the powers of Black Panther, passed down from generation to generation, beyond the throne of the country. Throughout the history we know more about the protagonist, the wakandangos and their country, until peace is interrupted by the ambitious villain Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis).

The production may bring a man as the protagonist, however the female cast is also strong and has a big importance. Women appear in large numbers and sometimes even steal the show. The film does not repeat female stereotypes and sought to bring mostly black women. So let’s get to know more about these incredible characters.

Nakia

Performed by the wonderful Lupita Nyong’o, Nakia is a spy who infiltrates African tribes to free women who are sex slaves. She is also an incredible activist and fighter, who does everything for Wakanda. T’Challa has feelings for her, but this is far from being the focus of the film. Nakia demonstrates throughout the history that her strength and determination aren’t moved by the love she feels for the Black Panther.

Ramonda Image Souce: Omelete

Mother of T’Challa and Shuri, Ramonda is Wakanda’s queen. Angela Bassett managed to build a balanced character and at the same time strong. It is possible to see how much the queen cares about her children and her country, but that does not make her really warlike and imposing. In fact, she’s as incredible as the other women in the movie.

Shuri

Shuri exceeds all expectations by showing one of the best characters in the story. Performed by Letitia Wright, she is the princess of the Wakanda and sister of T’Challa. She is also the smartest person in the world, surpassing Tony Stark and Brune Benner. Shuri develops advanced technology:she has created the uniform of the Black Panther and other objects that helps him fighting. But not only in the laboratory lives the Princess of Wakanda: she is part of the action, fighting like a warrior with his brother. In addition, her humor and charisma brings lightness to the story.

General Okoye

Much of the female force in the film comes from Okoye. Performed by Danai Gurira, Wakanda’s army general swore her life to protect the country and its kings, so she fights with great strength to protect T’Challa’s family. In all the action scenes Okoye participates, is amazing to see how skillful she is. No one messes with this woman! The general is more serious and restrained, but she can get a laugh with her mocking lines.

Dora Milaje

Dora Milaje is the name of the Okoye army. It is composed entirely of black women, who swore to protect the Wakanda throne. All of them are impressive warriors, they fight with great force and determination and are loyal to T’Challa.

Were you also in love with these women? Run to the theaters and do not miss Black Panther. You may not even be a fan of hero movies, but it’s worth going to see these women warriors who made the film so incredible.

If you see me around, talk with me about movie premiere, new series or gossip. What Can I do? I'm Gemini and I can't control my communicative and curious side.
