In today’s millions of options of things to watch and enjoy, streaming services are betting on original productions to improve customer loyalty. Amazon Prime Video has been following Netflix’s steps in producing content and its fast-growing catalog of prize winning shows is sure to amaze you. Here are some of the best series you can watch until the end of 2020!

Upload

The year is 2033 and the concept of death is a little different. Humans can “upload” themselves into a virtual afterlife and “live” forever, but don’t be fooled: the afterlife you get to go to depends on how much money you made during your living years. The plot follows a computer programmer named Nathan, who dies prematurely in a car crash and, after being uploaded, finds himself developing a relationship with Nora, his living customer service rep. Meanwhile, Nathan is confronted with the fact that the car crash he died in might not have been accidental, since “smart cars” from the future are programmed not to crash.

Upload premiered on May 1, 2020 and just seven days after it was renewed for a second season.

The Boys

This one’s for the superhero fans, kind of. Based on Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson’s comic books, The Boys is about a world where superheroes exist and are similar to our world’s celebrities. It revolves around the big corporation that manages The Seven, the group of elite superheroes, and its corruption and power abuse.

The story follows Hughie, who witnessed the accidental murder of his girlfriend by one of the superheroes, and Annie, who dreamt of being a part of The Seven all her life.

If you haven’t seen the first season, you’re in good timing since the second season just came out and you can marathon them both in one of these quarantine days!

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel

One of the most awarded shows Amazon Prime Video has produced so far, with three Golden Globes and five Primetime Emmy Awards, the show follows Miriam Midge Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan) in 1950’s New York. Mrs. Maisel is forced to endure day to day sexism and the tough task of providing for her children when, all of a sudden, a new career as a stand-up comedian opens up a whole new world to her.

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel was created by Amy Sherman-Palladino, who wrote Gilmore Girls, and it was renewed for its fourth season in November, 2019.

The Man in the High Castle

What if the alliance between Nazi Germany and the Japanese Empire had won World War II? Based on Philip K. Dick’s novel, The Man in the High Castle shows a world where this is true and the United States are divided between the japanese influence in the West Coast and the German rule in the East. Twenty years after the end of the conflict, the Cold War starts to stir up some conflict among the two powers. For any history buffs or dystopia lovers, this is a sure win.

The fourth season of the show premiered in November 2019, so there are plenty of episodes to marathon and dive into!

Hunters

Hunters takes place during the 1970’s, when a group of nazi hunters finds out the city of New York is about to be taken over by a Fourth Reich. With Al Pacino and Logan Lerman leading this cast of jews, misfits and minorities in counter culture America, Hunters is an enthralling story of family, history, vengeance and, of course, a good plot twist at the end.

The series premiered on February 21, 2020 and in August it was renewed for a second season.

Modern Love

Modern Love was born out of a weekly column published by The New York Times and has basically travelled through all entertainment platforms by this point: it’s been a podcast, a book and now, a television show. It’s about relationships, betrayals, revelations and overall, everything love in modern times entails. It’s goal is to explore love in its multiple forms: sexual, romantic, familiar, platonic and — the most important kind — self love.

If the plot of the show didn’t intrigue you enough, the cast sure will. It includes names such as Anne Hathaway, Tina Fey, Dev Patel and Catherine Keener. What makes you fall in love with these characters is how relatable they are and how much emotion they put into telling their stories.

Modern Love premiered on October 18, 2019 and by the 24th of that same month, it was renewed for a second season.
