#5 Movies You Should Watch On Halloween If You Are Scared Of Horror Films

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Casper Libero chapter.

Halloween is just around the corner and that means it’s time to watch some horror movies. Except, not everyone likes to be scared by them and that’s okay. The movies in this list either have some horror elements or make fun of them. See, they’re still spooky, but not scary. I’m fairly certain they should please horror fans and everyone else too. Have fun!

Little Evil

Gary (Adam Scott) has just become a stepdad to this lovely little boy, Lucas (Owen Atlas). Everything in his new life seems perfect, except for one thing. Lucas, it turns out, is evil. He’s the antichrist. Will Gary save the world from eternal damnation or step up as a dad and save his child from the bad influences of his biological father?

Little Evil plays with the fears of becoming a stepfather and connecting to your children through the classic horror trope of the antichrist. But it’s not scary, it uses humor to attenuate the horror elements and, in the end, make a really wholesome movie.

Interview With The Vampire

Interview With The Vampire is based off of the classic vampire novel written by Anne Rice in 1976 and introduces Louis (Brad Pitt) as he narrates his life from the moment the vampire Lestat (Tom Cruise) chooses him as an immortal companion. The movie follows them through the centuries as we see Lestat make yet another vampire, this time the little girl Claudia (Kirsten Dunst).

Look, I could talk for days about this movie (it may or may not be my favorite vampire movie ever). It’s a period piece, it has lots of vampire angst and a couple adopting a kid to save their relationship. It’s definitely worth your time if you like the creatures of the night. Something I’ll always wonder, though, is how they managed to cast Tom Cruise, Brad Pitt and Antonio Banderas in a vampire movie.

Practical Magic

The sisters Sally (Sandra Bullock) and Gillian (Nicole Kidman) Owens are witches, but they’re also cursed. All the men they fall in love with meet untimely deaths. In Practical Magic, the sisters have grown apart over the years, until Gillian calls home and asks Sally to help her escape an abusive relationship. They end up accidentally killing Gillian’s boyfriend, Jimmy (Goran Višnjić), and decide to resurrect him using a spell. Because that’s always a great idea.

Except Jimmy isn’t who they thought he was, he’s much, much worse. And now the sisters must face him again. I remember watching this movie as a kid and being utterly fascinated by it. It’s one of those essencial witchcraft movies everyone needs to watch.

What We Do In The Shadows

I couldn’t resist including another vampire movie in this list. This 2014 mockumentary shows a camera crew following four vampire roommates in the days leading up to the annual Unholy Masquerade. We meet Viago (Taika Waititi), Vladislav (Jemaine Clement), Deacon (Jonathan Brugh) and Petyr (Ben Fransham), who live together in New Zealand, as they show us how vampires live in the 21st century.

It is, without a doubt, one of the funniest movies ever made and it’s filled with clever jokes about vampires, which comes as no surprise since it was written and directed by Taika Waititi. It was so successful, it sprouted a spin off TV show that has already been renewed to its third season. You should definitely check it out, it’ll make you laugh hysterically.

Tucker And Dale Vs. Evil

Maybe I should start this by saying that Tucker And Dale Vs. Evil has a fair amount of blood in it. I won’t deny it. The movie makes fun of slasher movies, after all. It starts out with a group of college kids going camping in the middle of nowhere and crossing paths with a pair of hillbillies, Tucker (Alan Tudyk) and Dale (Tyler Labine). Far from the stereotype perpetrated by slasher movies, these two aren’t inbred serial killers, they’re actually super sweet guys who just want to enjoy their vacation in the cabin they just bought.

But the kids, through a series of misunderstandings, think they’re in danger. And the more Tucker and Dale try to help them, the worse things get. It’s a super fun movie with a really unexpected twist and a surprisingly sweet ending.
