The most magical holiday of the year is coming, Christmas and with it comes the music, decoration, food and also the musicals, those so famous that tickets sell out in a short time. Christmas musicals are tradition, mainly because it is a playful and totally lively way of telling historical stories that take place in a Christmas atmosphere, so to get us into this wonderful climate we chose four musicals to help!

The Nutcracker

Created in 1891 by Piotr Ilitch Tchaikovsky, it tells the story of Clara and her precious Nutcracker doll, which was a Christmas present. Together, they face a cruel battle against the King of Rats and his army, traveling through the Snow Kingdom to the Sweet Kingdom.

Being one of the main Christmas musicals, in a clear playful history, the Nutcracker was created among Tchaikovsky’s three ballets. However it was not only in the lightness of the sneakers, the story as well as the musical has already won a film too.

The Elf on the Shelf

The elf on the shelf is a famous Christmas musical that for many years has won the hearts of everyone who honors them. The story alludes to an old American game in which the toy elf stands on a shelf in the house watching the children, since the elf is one of the helpers of the good old man, they observe how the child behaved during the year.

The musical in turn tells the story of an elf named Tater Tot who is sent to a family with the mission of rescuing the Christmas spirit and bringing the magic of Christmas to that home, the show takes place annually in the United States by “The Elf on the Shelf: A Christmas Musical ”.

Holiday Inn

Holiday Inn also known as The New Irving Berlin Musical is a musical based on a film released in the year 1942, written by Gordon Greenberg and Chad Hodge and lyrics by Irving Berlin.

The famous musical tells the story of a recent couple who when moving to a farm in the interior of Connecticut ends up entering a love triangle, in the midst of a romantic, funny and magical atmosphere, the musical as well as the film involves a lot of love, dance, music and a lot of Christmas atmosphere..

Annie

Originally Annie was a popular American comic book, called “Little Orphan Annie”, by Harold Gray.

However, the story gained such notoriety that it became a musical, with music by Charles Strouse, lyrics by Martin Charnin and Libreto by Thomas Meehan. The original production had its debut in 1977 and was presented for six years.

The story revolves around a girl named Annie who is a little orphan recently adopted by a billionaire, but who still yearns for her biological family. All the search for Aniie’s biological parents and her adoption process for the billionaire takes place during the Christmas season, and all the love, joy and compassion that Christmas conveys is abundantly demonstrated in the musical.

The story is so important for the musical world that it also had a Brazilian version, with production by Miguel Falabella and names like Ingrid Guimarães and Sara Sarres in the cast.
