10 Years Of “Born This Way”: Everything We Know About Lady Gaga’s Reimagined Album

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Casper Libero chapter.

In 2010 at the VMA’s, Lady Gaga, after receiving the award for Video Of The Year, announced the name of her new record, Born this Way. Soon, in May of 2011, the album was finally released for the world, reaching 5.8 billion streams worldwide, selling more than 5.2 million physical albums and 31 million digital singles.

Born This Way truly marked Gaga’s legacy and was one of the greatest albums of her career, carrying messages, until today, about love, freedom to be who we want to be, strength and accept ourselves as we are.

In an interview for Billboard, Bobby Campbell, the singer’s manager, remembered backstage moments that he spent with her, all her dedication to the grandiose presentations and how the album brings a message of inclusion, comfort and courage for the queer community. He also points out that Gaga really made big social changes.

This year (2021), Born This Way, completes a decade. And to celebrate its anniversary, the Mother Monster has prepared a tribute as special as the original album is. On May 28th, Gaga went to her Instagram account and made the big announcement:

“Introducing Born This Way The Tenth Anniversary, a special edition of the album in new packaging that will be available on June 25!”

Born This Way Tenth Anniversary will be a special edition, featuring 14 original tracks, according to the website Pitchfork, and also a second disc with six re-recordings of the single Born This Way, performed by artists who represent and defend the LGBTQIA+ community.

To give a taste of what this celebration will be, keeping the Little Monsters anxious until June 25th, the singer has already published three re-recordings. The track “Judas”, sung by the American rapper Big Freedia, “Marry The Night” by  Kylie Minogue and the title track “Born This Way”, this time available in a country version, in the voice of Orville Peck.

The next contributors haven’t been announced yet. However, there is already speculation that the tracklist will bring  “Highway Unicorn”, “Yoü and I” and “The Edge of Glory”.

The album is already on pre-sale along with other products, which you can check by clicking here. Now, all that remains to us is to wait anxiously and stay tuned for more new songs that Gaga can drop until the revamped album on June 25.
