#10 Unmissable Releases In The Netflix Catalog In October 2020

Netflix, a streaming platform for audiovisual productions spread across the globe, carries with it a wide catalog of films, series and documentaries. A large portion of them are originals of the company, so they will always be available, while others can only be watched for a certain period.

Although there is a withdrawal of productions from the Netflix universe, every month a list of titles and the respective dates on which they may be reproduced is released through social media. This practice pleases Netflix subscribers, who are always on the lookout waiting for news.

On the list of Netflix launches in October 2020, the highlights are the Oscar winners Dunkirk, Blade Runner 2049 and Inglourious Basterds. There is also a special selection of 11 horror films alluding to Halloween, with an emphasis on It: Part 1 – The Loser’s Club. Check out the main releases!

Blade Runner 2049 (01/10)

35 years after its launch, Blade Runner gained a sequel in 2017: Blade Runner 2049. The plot follows the footsteps of K, a replicant (synthetic human created by bioengineering) who works as a Blade Runner for the Los Angeles police. After discovering an unbelievable secret with the potential to plunge what remains of society into chaos, K receives a secret mission that appears to be linked to Rick Deckard, a former Blade Runner who disappeared 30 years ago.

Emily in Paris: Season 1 (02/10)

From the same creator of Sex and the City, Emily in Paris is the new Netflix romantic comedy starring Lily Collins. The plot is all set in Paris, where young marketing executive Emily Cooper moves after being hired for her dream job. However, it doesn’t take long for her to realize that the lifestyle in the French capital is totally different from her hometown, Chicago. This is where the tough times begin, with Emily trying to prove herself at work as she wants to enjoy what her new life offers.

The Haunting of Bly Manor: Season 1 (09/10)

Second season of the anthological series “The Haunting”, created by Mike Flanagan for Netflix, which had The Haunting of  Hill House as the first season, in The Haunting of Bly Manor, young Dani Clayton, played by Victoria Pedretti, is hired by Henry Wingrave to work in a huge, old mansion, taking care of her two orphaned nephews. But everything gets complicated when the brothers Flora and Miles start to behave strangely. The story takes place in England in 1987 and is inspired by the short story “The Turn of the Screw”.

Riverdale: Season 4  (09/10)

After Luke Perry’s tragic death in March of this year, the fourth season of Riverdale series is finally coming to Netflix. In the first episode, there is a tribute to the actor who played the character Fred Andrews since the first season of the story. The fourth year arrives to try answering the mystery left by the third season and almost every episode ends with a flashforward (scene from the future) that fills other spaces with new mysteries.

ONE PIECE (12/10)

The One Piece anime, one of the most well-known works in the world, will finally enter the Netflix catalog. Based on the manga of the same name, written by Eiichiro Oda, the anime is already one of the longest in history. One Piece follows the story of a group of pirates led by Monkey D. Luffy. The boy, who has an elastic body, intends to become the King of Pirates and for that he must find One Piece, a mysterious treasure capable of making him unbeatable, according to the legends.

The Trial of the Chicago 7 (16/10)

The plot of The Trial of the Chicago 7, inspired by real events, addresses what was supposed to be a peaceful protest at the 1968 Democratic National Convention and turned into a violent confrontation with the police and the US National Guard. Protest organizers, who included names like Abbie Hoffman, Jerry Rubin, Tom Hayden and Bobby Seale, were accused of conspiracy to incite disorder, and the resulting judgment was one of the most notorious in history.

Rebecca (21/10)

Rebecca, the gothic novel by Daphne du Maurier, gets a new adaptation starring Armie Hammer and Lily James. Lily James plays a young woman who marries Maxim de Winter, a rich and mysterious widower. When they move to Maxim’s large property on the English coast, Manderley, the young woman discovers that there are several secrets she does not know. Mrs. Danvers, the housekeeper, keeps alive the legacy of Rebecca, Maxim’s late wife, who haunts the couple’s home and life.

Cadaver (22/10)

“After a nuclear disaster, a hungry family finds hope in a charismatic hotel owner. Attracted by the prospect of a free dinner, they gradually become suspicious of their luck. Will they be spectators or the entertainment of the night? ” With this description, we know that it is a post-apocalyptic film and, with regard to terror, the trailer evokes the memory of films like Hostel or The Platform, in which people are attracted to a place without knowing what to do or what awaits them.

The Queen’s Gambit: Season 1 (23/10)

Based on the novel by Walter Tevis, the miniseries shows the true cost of genius, following the trajectory of Beth Harmon, played by Anya Taylor-Joy, a young woman abandoned in a Kentucky orphanage in the late 1950s. She discovers that she has a lot of talent for chess, but is addicted to the tranquilizers offered by the state to reassure orphans. Tormented by the demons themselves, fed by a cocktail of medicines and obsessions, Beth begins to draw attention with her skills and decides to overcome the barriers of the male world of chess competitions.

Inglourious Basterds (23/10)

In World War II, France is occupied by the Nazis. Lieutenant Aldo Raine, played by Brad Pitt, is in charge of assembling a platoon of soldiers of Jewish origin, with the aim of carrying out a suicide mission against the Germans. The goal is to kill as many Nazis as possible, in the most cruel way possible. At the same time, Shosanna Dreyfuss watches the execution of her family at the hands of Colonel Hans Landa, which causes her to flee to Paris. There she disguises herself as an operator and owner of a local cinema, while planning a way to get revenge.

BONUS: Rocky Balboa Collection (23/10)

The streaming service is launching all Rocky in its catalog, in a unique opportunity for both new fighters and old ringers who want to relive the glories, pains and losses of Rocky Balboa, the boxer who catches, catches, but never gives up. Of course, sport is just the backdrop for a story that speaks volumes about resilience, perseverance, friendship and love – a formula that won three Oscars for the original 1976 film.
