The Academy Awards, or just The Oscars, is the most famous cinema award in the world. Since 1929, that little golden man has been honoring outstanding achievements and celebrating some remarkable motion picture productions.

Nowadays, The Oscars is an event broadcast worldwide and watched by thousands of people. Of course, we love to marathon all the movies and cheer for our favorites, but there is another super important part of this event: the looks! In all these years, the celebration brought us lots of incredible outfits, and every year we look forward to seeing celebrities rocking the red carpet.

While we wait a little longer until the Oscars 2021 edition, let’s remember the most iconic looks in history!

Cher (1986)

Let’s be real, we couldn’t start this list with anyone other than her! Cher was the queen of bold extravagant looks. She wore this shiny (not basic at all) black dress, made by stylist Bob Mackie, in the same year she won an award for best actress for her performance in “Moonstruck”. OMG, just look at this incredible headdress, I don’t need to say anything else!

Edy Williams (1986)

Edy Williams was known for her sexy looks. She wore this amazing outfit at the 1986 Oscars. A woman ahead of her time for sure. Love it!

Demi Moore (1989)

A very controversial look, not everyone will like this dress chosen by Demi Moore for the occasion. But we can’t deny that she rocked shorts on the red carpet way before biker shorts came into fashion!

Kim Basinger (1990)

In this puffy mix of  “Sex and the City” and “Paquitas”, Kim Basinger’s dress is SO 90s!

Madonna (1991)

Nothing to say, but WONDERFUL! Madonna left everyone with their jaws on the floor when she arrived at the 1991 Academy Awards with this Bob Mackie gown and next to no one other than Michael Jackson. A powerful duo!

Björk (2001)

Is there anything more iconic than wearing a swan dress on the red carpet? Björk brings every time and never lets us down. The singer presented us with this outfit by Marjan Pejoski at the Oscars 2001. Oh, and yes, she laid an egg in the middle of the awards! Queen, right?

Angelina Jolie (2004)

Draping her body in a beautiful sheet of silk, Angelina Jolie chose this simply breathtaking gown by Marc Bouwer to wear to the 2004 Academy Awards. Gorgeous!

Jennifer Lawrence (2013)

Jennifer Lawrence wore this dress the same year that she won the Best Actress Oscar award for “Silver Lining Playbook”. The dress is beautiful, but what really made it remarkable was the artist’s fall on the stairs when she went to get the trophy. Celebrities also have their moments of nervousness, we get you JLaw!

Lady Gaga (2015)

Gaga attended the 87th Academy Awards in a ladylike Azzedine Alaïa gown. That’s not really what you’re interested in though, right? Gaga famously accessorized with a pair of red leather gloves, which become a huge meme this year. What do you think of this look?

Billy Porter (2019)

The icon of “Pose” destroyed everything with this huge half-dress-half-suit outfit by Christian Siriano! Running away from the classic boring suits worn by most men, Billy always surprises us with different and impressive outfits. The actor does not joke when it comes to award looks!
