If the CWRU Colleges Were Sorted Into Hogwarts Houses

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Case chapter.

The College of Arts and Sciences – Slytherin

Values: Resourcefulness, Ambition, Unity

Slytherin is a group-focused house, and if any group of students on the CWRU campus is group-oriented, it’s the Arts and Sciences kids. Although this college includes a wide variety of majors from Biology to English to Math, Arts and Sciences students thrive on unity. These kids stick together. Likewise, they tend to be quite resourceful and imaginative. Their creativity is boundless – like their Slytherin counterparts. So, be nice to the Slytherins! These people are your future lawyers, writers, linguists, doctors, and thinkers.

Notable Slytherins: Tom Riddle, Severus Snape, Dolores Umbridge, Draco Malfoy

The Case School of Engineering – Ravenclaw

Values: Intelligence, Wit, Knowledge

Ravenclaws are often associated with their passion for knowledge – kind of like our Case engineers. These students are often described as inquisitive, problem solvers, determined, and great with quantitative skills. Like Ravenclaws, they seek to understand how the world works, and how to improve it. They’re not scared of the unknown, and they are always learning from their mistakes. These students are the world’s future builders, technologists, and designers.

Notable Ravenclaws: Luna Lovegood, Cho Chang, Myrtle

The Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing – Hufflepuff

Values: Loyalty, Patience, Kindness

One characteristic that our nursing students share with the members of Hufflpuff is the trait of patience. If you’ve ever been around our nursing students, you’ll know that they are some of the most patient students on campus. These students understand that patience often overcomes the many strenuous situations that they face in the hospital. Likewise, Hufflepuffs are more inclined to study subjects like Herbology, and the Care of Magical Creatures because they tend to place the value of life above other interests…just like our nurses. Finally, Hufflepuffs are very practical; they are interested in what’s possible, not what’s probable – another reason why they would provide the perfect house for CWRU nursing students.

Notable Hufflepuffs: Cedric Diggory, Pomona Sprout

The Weatherhead School of Management – Gryffindor

Values: Bravery, Nerve, Chivalry

Gryffindors are known to be individualistic and self-motivated, much like the members of the school of management. But, the trait that distinguishes them the most from other houses is their fiery desire for greatness. These students know what they want, and they’re willing to work hard to get it. They seek excellence, honor, and reputation, and they’re willing to take whatever career risks they must to achieve their goals. In the Harry Potter series, the members of Gryffindor are often associated with the element of fire. Similarly, you’ll find that Weatherhead students are hot with fiery passion for what they believe in. It’s rare that you’ll meet an apathetic Weatherhead student…these are the kids that are most likely to be self-made millionaires.

Notable Gryffindors: Albus Dumbledore, Hermoine Granger, Ron Weasley, Sirius Black, Harry Potter

The most wonderful part about Hogwarts is the truth that all of the houses are essential in defeating the dark forces. Although the houses often compete, the students are all part of the same governing school, and are only divided so they may have an individualized learning experience that prepares each student for future success. The same can be said about CWRU; now let’s unify to fight our real-life dark forces!
