Cutting Your Hair: Just DO IT!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Case chapter.

My whole life, my hair has been one of my favorite features. Ever since high school, I’ve had hair that would go down to around the middle of my back, and in college, it had grown so long it reached my butt! This past fall, I did something I thought I would never do in my life: I cut my hair. Not just a trim, like I normally would go for. I always told myself that even when I got older, I probably wouldn’t ever go for short hair because I just didn’t think it would suit me. Anyway, after much deliberation and coaxing from my roommate, I did the unthinkable: I cut off twelve inches of my hair! I remember being absolutely terrified that it would end badly, but it did quite the opposite. For once, people said I actually looked my age rather than 15.

I decided to write this article to encourage people to go for it! If you’ve ever been thinking about cutting your hair, I think it’s about that time. The temperatures in Cleveland are even rising about 40! Who knows what the future has in store!

Here are some tips for when you go in your first time:

1.     Think about what you want beforehand.

Definitely consider your options before going in to get your hair cut. You can look up certain styles online and see what you think would look good with your face shape. If your hair is long enough, you could even donate it!

2.     Be direct with your hair stylist about the style you want.

Telling your hair stylist exactly what you want is important if you have a specific look in mind. It’s their job to make you look good, so don’t be shy!

3.     OWN IT!

After your hair has been cut, you’re most likely going to feel a lot lighter, and your hair will be super healthy! Get excited for your new hair, and be proud of it!
