13 Reasons Why Big is Always Better

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Case chapter.

1.)   BIG TSHIRTS

Does this even need explanation? Whether you’re rocking the spirit jersey with leggings or your boyfriend’s T before you go to bed, the oversized T is the best excuse to avoid real pants (for those who don’t consider leggings real pants!).

2.)    BIG BEDS

Because unfortunately, the dorm room twin xl mattress just doesn’t leave enough space for your boyfriend, errr…uh body pillow…

3.)    BIG HAIR

From big messy buns to big curls, we can all agree that big, loose hair is in. Just look at the difference between the tight fishtail on the left in comparison to Miley’s big beautiful braid. It’s the best way to look put-together, without suffering the too-tight-hair headache or succumbing to a trying-too-hard look. #Flawless.

4.)    BIG JEWELRY

Charming Charlie has taught us that accessorizing is the key to any successful outfit of the day: watches, earrings, rings, necklaces, bracelets, even anklets! And if Charming Charlie isn’t authority enough for you, Queen B is here to back them up with her own chunky necklaces. Because really, if your jewelry isn’t chunky, is it really even there?

5.)    BIG CARDIGANS

Dolman cardigans have redefined the cardigan. Forget about the pastel, button up church and office-wear cardigans of the past. These oversized and warmth infused fashion staples are the only way to survive a Cleveland winter in style and comfort. And of course, we love them with leggings!

6.)   BIG SCARVES

All the big celebs understand the utility of a big scarf. Blake Lively, Reese Witherspoon and Mindy Kaling serve as scarf-wearing role models. Let us steal their styles while simultaneously fighting off the six months of Cleveland snow sneaking down our coats!

7.)  BIG GYMS

Even if you are not a fitness fanatic, or even a moderate work-outer, Case’s all-new fitness center on North Side allows enough space for anyone to make use of the awesome facility. (I have even found myself on the ellipticals once or twice!) This is a big improvement for the Campus, in addition to the new Tinkham Veale building, because not only does the new fitness center host a big TV in the downstairs conference room, it also spaces out the workout center into two levels, giving even the shy a chance to develop some big muscles. Or, just skip the workout and hangout on the beautiful balconies, which provide a great view of the DiSanto field.

8.)    BIG COFFEE

When it comes to coffee, bigger is always better. Always. Lucky for us, bigger does not have to mean more expensive. The Starbucks on North Side offers to fill up ANY SIZE TRAVEL MUG for only $2. Thank you Starbucks for providing the only motivation for any of us to actually stay up and study.

9.)    BIG CLASSES

Although Case is renowned for its engineering, science and math departments as the largest focus of the campus programming, any of the arts and humanities majors, like myself, have never had the luxury of hanging out in the back row of a lecture hall, scrolling down pinterest and yik yak. For those of us in classes under 10 people, participation and attendance are two haunting grades we shall never escape. If you’ve got a case of the college blues, the bigger the class the better.

10.) BIG UMBRELLAS

These portable igloos are the best shields against the rain attacking from every direction.  They also seem to be the only warriors strong enough to overcome the wind, whereas the cute little pocket umbrellas turn inside out at the first sign of resistance. Don’t worry about being made fun of, in reality, every one is just jealous that you aren’t showing up to class looking like a drowned rat.

11.) BIG GLASSES

If Case, Anne Hathawy and Jay-Z serve as our data pool, not-so-nerdy hipster glasses are the only way to wear glasses anymore. Congratulations to those who owned them before they became in style;  may nerds rule fashion forever!

12.)  BIG DREAMS

“Think beyond the possible” definitely captures the culture of Case student life; everyone at case has big plans, aspirations and dreams for their futures, which is what makes case such a competitive and esteemed university. In the words of Conrad Hilton, “To accomplish big things…you must first dream big dreams.”

13.)  JUST BIG….

Lastly, most importantly, what would Sex & the City be without Carrie Bradshaw’s infamous soul mate, Mr. Big?
