Women In Power: Meeting Nina Chin

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Carleton chapter.

Reflecting back on my time with Her Campus Carleton, I can certainly attest to the saying – “time flies when you’re having fun.” I originally heard about the club through a friend and shortly after in January 2019 I became a contributing writer. I found myself falling in love with what the club stood for; an opportunity to share your opinions, stories and passions and a network of women supporting each other. Although Her Campus Carleton soon became much more than that to me. In March of that year, I ran for the social media executive position for 2019-2020 and to my surprise was elected.

Hi, my name is Nina and I am currently a fourth-year Communications and Media Studies student. This year I have had the pleasure of running all of Her Campus Carleton’s social media platforms with my team member Jen! I think looking back on our socials this year I am most proud of our themed media week campaigns and the takeover we were able to do with Her Campus DCU (Dublin’s Chapter). It has also been incredible watching our Chapter here at Carleton grow, both online and physically in terms of members!

Beyond simply posting on our club’s channels, connecting potential writers to our editing team, and promoting some of our writers’ amazing articles, I have had the chance to get to know some incredible people. While this year may have been cut short due to COVID-19, I have had so much fun working with such an amazing team of executives and am so grateful for being able to be part of such an amazing club in a leadership role!

To any other Carleton students looking to get involved, I would highly recommend Her Campus Carleton! Whether it be running for a position on our executive team or a more low-key role as a writer or volunteer, it’s well worth it! While closing this chapter of my time with Her Campus Carleton is bittersweet, I will be returning next year and plan on contributing more as a writer. That being said, I cannot wait to see what next year’s team has in store.
