Valentine’s Day Outfit Ideas

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Carleton chapter.

Roses are red, violets are blue, it’s almost February 14th, and I have fashion inspiration for you. No matter what your relationship status is: single, in a relationship, it’s complicated, and everything in between, Valentine’s Day is going to be unforgettable. With these love inspired outfits, you will spend less time stressing over what to wear and more time with your loved ones. Whether you are skating on the canal with a special someone or binge-watching Nicholas Sparks’ classics, I’ve got you covered. You will be saying “Be Mine” to all of these festive looks!

The Heart-Patterned Blouse

If dressing from head to toe in red isn’t really your thing, this preppy heart-patterned blouse is ideal for your Valentine’s Day plans! To dress it down, add a pair boyfriend jeans and some cute flats. The pattern looks like polka dots, so you can wear this top anytime of the year too. Casual, comfy and cute: there will be no stopping this love affair.

The Red Lace Dress

This gorgeous red lace dress is the be-all and end-all of Valentine’s Day ensembles. If you have a dinner date planned at a fancy restaurant, this flowy, romantic dress is perfect! To finish the look, add a pair of black pumps and sparkly earrings to compliment the stunning deep red colour. Talk about being head over heels!

The Blush Puffer Coat

Being bundled up doesn’t mean your look has to be boring. This blush pink puffer jacket will keep you nice and warm for a romantic skate on the canal with your significant other. Be sure to pair the coat with some skinny jeans, a comfy sweater, and a cute hat and gloves. If your hands start to get frosty, just drop a hit that they need some warming up. Holding hands, anyone? Thanks, Mother Nature!

The Love Sweater

Since Valentine’s Day falls in the middle of winter, a wool sweater will keep you warm and stylish. The graphic “love” across the front just makes this jumper that much more fabulous for the day of love. Rock it with your favourite pair of leggings to maximize the comfort.

The Graphic Heart Shift Dress

Calling all of you fearless fashionistas out there! Sometimes less is more, but in this case, more is more. This graphic white heart shift dress is not for the faint-hearted (see what I did there). If you’re going to be hitting up a single’s party or just lounging around the house, this comfy t-shirt dress will feel like you have nothing on. But you will, promise. You have such a big heart, inside and out.

The Dress with a Pop of Pink

“Are you my college debt? Because I could see being with you for the rest of my life.” If your date says this to you, run. No matter how the first date goes with a new cutie, at least your outfit will be getting all of the love on February 14th. This adorable fuchsia A-line dress is festive without looking like a V-Day Hallmark card. Tone the pop of pink down with black and white accessories for a wearable look.

The Dark Floral Trouser

Edgy, sophisticated and girly: the ideal combination for a night out with your girlfriends. Dark floral trousers are such a standout and a subtle way to be in the V-Day spirit. A light pink chiffon blouse balances out the darker bottom for a tough meets feminine vibe. As the author of Sex and the City so famously said, “Maybe our girlfriends are our soulmates and guys are just people to have fun with.”

The Valentine’s Day Onesie

Sometimes all a girl needs is an intimate, emotional, and passionate date with their bed and a romantic comedy. Snuggle up in your comfiest onesie (bonus if it has hearts on it) and watch your favourite tearjerkers all night long. Be sure to stock up on Kleenex, chocolate, and red wine for the ultimate V-Day. Who needs a real-life lover when you have Ryan Gosling from The Notebook?
