Stepping Into Spring: 7 Must-haves of 2015

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Carleton chapter.

At first, all of the snow-covered trees were pretty, and we were all excited to pull out our blanket scarfs and were looking forward to going skating on the canal… By now, most of us probably dread even the idea of having to leave the house (I know I do) in these dreaded, never-ending wintery conditions that we are faced with in Ottawa.  A good way to shake off these winter blues is to prepare ourselves for spring. After all, it is right around the corner! Here are 7 essentials for Spring 2015 that are sure to turn heads and leave you looking stunning.

1. The Cuban-Heeled Ankle Boot

Ankle boots in winter conditions aren’t always the smartest idea. But in spring, these chic boots will work wonders when paired with your favourite jeans, or a cute dress! The Cuban heel also makes them oh so comfortable and easy to walk in for those who don’t typically like to wear heels.

2. Paisley Infinity Scarf

This bright pattern is sure to freshen up your wardrobe for the spring! All of the different colours help to make it so that you can pair it with a lot of different outfits. After all, the right scarf can take an old, simple look and transform it into one that will turn heads.

3. Midi Skirt

These mid-length skirts are both elegant and effortless at the same time! While a flowy, A-line style is perfect for an afternoon event or date-night, the pencil style transforms this classic look for a night out on the town with the girls.

4. The Trench Coat

You can never really go wrong with the classic, tan belted trench for spring… But there are also new variations and twists on this must-have coat! Take these two trendy new looks from Forever 21 as a guideline, and pick what best suits your style and personality!

5. Fringed Poncho

This new style is both trendy and comfortable. Layer it over a cute dress with tights or pair it with jeans and your favourite boots. The opportunities are endless. You can even take this look straight into the summer and fall as well. It won’t be going out of style anytime soon!

6. Colour Block Tights

It’s almost time to pull out our skirts and dresses that have been collecting dust over the winter! It is still pretty chilly and a pair of opaque tights will be sure to save us from some goose bumps. These cute coloured ones can be that final touch for your skirt-and-sweater outfit, or a new way to spice up an old LBD. American Apparel conveniently offers them in over 30 colours.

7. Last But Not Least- A Reliable Pair of Rain Boots

There is seriously nothing worse than walking around with wet socks, or getting mud on your new shoes when you finally get to wear them out for the first time. You can guarantee it is going to rain in spring- there’s no avoiding it. Rain boots are an essential for surviving this season. So head on down to the mall and be sure to grab yourself one of these cute glossy pairs from Spring Shoes. Hunter Boots also just released their classics in new colours, while these babies may be a small investment, your warm and dry feet will be sure to thank you in the end. Remember ladies: “spring flowers bring May showers!”
