Spring Is Approaching: What To Look Forward To

The winter season has looked a little different this year. Usually, February is one of the coldest months of the year, with lots of snow or slush perhaps, and we continue bundled up in our winter jackets, fuzzy hats and mitts. But recently, it’s been almost nine degrees every time I have checked the weather, with no sign of snow. And now that it’s March, it feels as though summer is approaching faster too. But I hope we get to enjoy the cooler spring weather before the season arrives.

I love spring. The weather gets warmer, the grass gets greener, and the flowers start blooming. And it’s the time of year when although exams are fast approaching, summer is too. So here are the top experiences I am looking forward to this spring:

The days get longer, and the weather gets warmer

I don’t know about you, but I have been missing the days when the sun stays out a little longer and the days feel longer too. When the spring season comes, I tend to feel less tired throughout the day. As we recently experienced Daylight Savings, we get to have those longer days back for a little while. And with the sun shining brighter than before, it can make us feel like we can do so much more throughout our day. We get that vitamin C boost back into our day more naturally, which can bring us comfort and joy.

Outdoor Sports

As a new season approaches, the weather begins to change. Having the warmer weather is a wake-up call for one of my favourite things to do during this time, which is outdoor sports. One of the things I am looking forward to this spring is getting to run outside in the cool air, and getting to experience nature a lot more.

As a person who grew up playing sports, the spring season meant that we could finally practice or play outside. When the snow has melted we don’t have to wear several layers of clothing, the parks become more lively and fields begin to open again. The warmer weather makes activities like running and playing sports such as soccer and tennis much more enjoyable.

I grew up playing soccer on a competitive team, and during the winter season, we had to practice indoors. We transitioned to playing outdoors once the weather was not below zero, and we only had to wear one layer in addition to our uniform. I appreciated the spring season because it was the perfect weather to play this sport, especially in comparison to the summertime when the heat can get to you really fast.

So spring is perfect to start participating in the sports and activities you’ve been wanting to do again outdoors. Although, at least for me, I want to try something new this year. One of the new things I want to try this year is Yoga and Pilates events outside, where you can be in nature and feel more grounded with yourself.

Spring Fashion

Have you missed the days when you can walk outside without a winter coat? Well, spring is just the beginning of wearing lighter clothing, and showing your fashion sense around the city, your neighbourhood, or just around your house. When I think of spring, I think of all the beautiful colours it has to offer from the flowers to the fresh green grass. It makes me want to dress in more colourful clothing. Wearing colours such as light green, blue, purple, and pink, has allowed me to feel more joyful throughout the day.

I have been waiting to do a spring wardrobe transition and the weather has already been feeling warmer than usual. So it’s time to put away the winter wardrobe and take out the pieces I’ve wanted to wear all year.

So, what are you looking forward to wearing again this spring?

Date Activities

A lot of the activities we tend to do during the winter season happen to be held indoors, such as movie nights, getting hot chocolate, going to the mall, having paint nights, and the list goes on. Although, winter does have its fun outdoor activities, such as skating, snowboarding, sledding, and more. But this year we hardly got any snow, so those winter activities were most likely not experienced by many people. However, the spring season is coming and there is so much to look forward to doing again with friends, family, and significant others.

Here are a couple I have in mind:

  • Outdoor Walks/Hikes
  • Picnics Outside
  • Tulip Season
  • Bikes Rides
  • Outdoor Festivals
  • Farmers Markets

Seasonal Items are Back!

Something I look forward to during the Spring season is being introduced to new fashion trends, new music, new baked goods, and new drink choices. But something I also look forward to is those seasonal items, food, or beverages, coming back in the spring season. One of my favourite things I look forward to, just like the many people who get excited getting their pumpkin spice lattes in the fall, are the drinks and flavours that only come back once it is spring and summertime.

Just the other day, I have been seeing new flavours at coffee shops for the spring season such as lavender. I am so excited to try some new items and hopefully, it will become my go-to order.

I also tend to order more iced drinks than hot (it feels good to do that again).

What are your plans this spring?

The list of things to look forward to this Spring can go on and on. This is a season that feels like a fresh start as the plants grow back and the days get sunnier. And hey, summer is just around the corner, so get ready for the warmest time of year!
