Who is Rodrigo?

Rodrigo Pereira is a fourth-year Sprott School of Business student here at Carleton University. During his studies at Carleton, Rodrigo has served in many groups on campus such as a Sprott Frosh facilitator, a residence fellow for the Department of Housing, VP of Finance for H.O.L.A.S., and various other students’ groups from the Sprott School of Business. In the fall of 2013, Rodrigo returned home to Brazil. When he got home, after much testing, he was diagnosed with cancer. Ewing’s Sarcoma, to be precise, which is a rare form of cancer usually found in young adults, however we are glad to say that he is getting treatment.

Why did you start up Rally for Rodrigo?

Rodrigo is one of the nicest, funniest and most upbeat person that we have met. We started Rally for Rodrigo, because we wanted to help him and his family as much as we could. We thought about how involved Rodrigo had been on campus and decided to try and see how many other people would be willing to join us in helping. So… We gave it a try !

What is the response that you guys have received so far from the start up of this club – ever since reaching out to the Carleton Community?

The response that we have gotten from the Carleton community has been nothing short of just amazing positivity. When we held the bake sale first semester, we truly felt the support of people across campus. Students donated the entire selection of the baked goods that were for sale. Students that we had never met before had come up to the set table, with goods that they wanted to donate for sell, even though they had never even met Rodrigo. Students came by and simply donated money and gave us all their spare change.  We continued to receive the same support at the coffeehouse we hosted. It’s been truly touching to see!

What other plans do you have for the near future?

We just hosted a night at Oliver’s on Thursday, March 27th. Next, we will be selling raffle tickets and we could use all the support we can get, so tell your friends. After all, sharing is caring!

We will also be selling raffle tickets; we’ve gotten some great prizes donated from the Ottawa community. Raffle tickets will be $2.00 per ticket and $5.00 for three. Look for us in Residence Commons next week for tickets. The draw for raffle prizes is April 4th.

Last words…

We couldn’t have done it without everyone’s support, and thanks to all of you we have been able to raise over $14,000!
