Valentine’s day is just around the corner and you’re going to have a good time whether you’re in a relationship or not.

I myself have struggled to find things to do as a single person on Valentine’s day — it can be especially hard seeing all the cute couples doing things together! But, a day dedicated to love can mean loving yourself as well. So, I’ve created this list of five things to do as a single on Valentine’s Day here in Ottawa!

1. Movie night

A movie is a go-to for a fabulous night! Sure, you can cuddle up with some ice cream and throw something on Netflix, but if you’re feeling adventurous check out the Mayfair Theatre on Bank Street! This is the oldest theatre in Ottawa and always has some super interesting films playing. An especially great choice if you’re into the old classics or fun indie films!

2. flower cafe

The Luxe Blooms Flower Cafe is one of the cutest, most Instagram-able spots in town! The pink floral atmosphere screams Valentine’s Day. Grab a close friend and treat yourselves to a specialty coffee and delicious pastry. You won’t be disappointed, and you’ll probably snap a few memorable pictures as well!

3. Pamper Yourself with a fresh haircut

I always feel my best after walking out of a hair salon. If you tend to feel down on Valentine’s day, this is sure to help. One of my favourite spots to go in Ottawa is Hair Republic! They have multiple locations around town and their stylists are amazing. Get that haircut you’ve been putting off for months and come out looking fresh and ready to take on the day.

4. Listen to empowering music

Music always helps set the tone for the day ahead. Check out my female empowerment playlist filled with strong female artists and messages! This gets me through any hard day, especially when I’m feeling lonely! Nothing says empowerment like rocking out to pop songs.

5. Throw a Galentine’s party

This is the most obvious one of all, but I had to throw it in here. Get all your single friends together, dress up, bring out the wine, charcuterie board, chocolates and start a rom-com marathon! It’s hands-down one of the best ways to celebrate the day of love, and you’ll truly get to relax and have fun.

Hopefully you find yourself doing one of these fun activities on the day of love! Have any other ideas of what to do in Ottawa? Let us know @hccarleton!
