How to prep for hot girl summer: No, it’s not too late to start

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Carleton chapter.

Summer is just around the corner. In two months, the sun will be shining, the nights will be longer and everyone will be out of their winter blues. If you haven’t started preparing for hot girl summer, it’s not too late!

Here are some things to keep in mind that may help you get started.

1. Clean out your closet

Spring cleaning is very necessary. Declutter your closet and your space. If you haven’t worn something in the past year, get rid of it. And if you’re updating your closet, follow the “one in, one out” rule. This will help you keep your closet and space up to date.

An added bonus: you can also list your items on Facebook Marketplace, Depop or Poshmark for the items you’re choosing to purge!

2. Be smart with your money

Start saving now. This will allow you to have some extra spending money to hit some additional patios when the weather warms up. Or even better, you’ll be able to plan a getaway with your friends. Either way, it wouldn’t hurt to save some moola!

3. Book that therapy appointment

Depending on where you’re at in life, if therapy is something you have hemmed and hawed about this is your sign to book that appointment! We are healing this year, working on ourselves and learning how to be better people others want to surround themselves with!

4. Surround yourself with positive people

If you feel uneasy around the people you’re surrounding yourself with, you may want to re-evaluate the people you’re letting into your life! I promise there are others out there who you will connect with better. Finding your people comes with time. We don’t have the energy to keep individuals around who negatively impact us!

5. Eat food that makes you feel good and move your body!

No, I’m not going to tell you to work out five times a week and to only eat greens. Hot girl summer is all about doing things that make you feel happy. So, if just getting outside and going for a short walk is more your vibe, that’s great. Or if doing something like a spin class is more your speed, that’s great, too. As long as you’re doing something to move your body, you’re on the right track!

Eat foods that make you happy! Obviously, it would be good to throw in some balanced meals but enjoy yourself. Make food you actually want to eat, treat yourself and indulge. Food has the ability to improve your mood greatly. Whether it’s a healthy meal you’re putting in your body, your favourite takeout or making a fun new meal, go nuts!

6. Keep your mind active

Journal, read or aim to do the Wordle every day. Do something to keep your mind active! It never hurts and incorporating even one of these things into your routine would be beneficial.

7. Keep up with your self-care

Keeping up with your daily skin-care routine and incorporating some extras here and there will help you feel good! Set some time aside and do a face mask or have a bath. It’s always worth it to put time back into yourself.

Start doing things that make you feel good and establish your routine now. This summer will be one to look forward to. Enjoy your hot girl summer!
