Easy Ways to Save on Holiday Shopping

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Carleton chapter.

Yes, we are back to that busy time of the year. Assignments, tests, exams — oh my! The last thing we should be worrying about is gift-giving, and while I try to buy all my gifts before the craziness begins, it seems that every year I am able to procrastinate enough to let it all fall on my plate at once. So now we have school and shopping to worry about — let’s not add money to that list. Look at all the easy ways below you can save money this holiday season and get some great personable gifts.

Honey

This great browser extension is completely free and keeps track of product pricing while also collecting coupons along the way! You can get the app to track any specific product, or click on any product and Honey will tell you if the price has been raised or dropped recently! Just the other week I was purchasing an item and Honey had found me a $20 off coupon! Doesn’t get much better than this!

SHEIN

Yep, I’m sure you’ve heard of the app with the cheap clothes, but I’m here to say that if you search carefully you’ll find some great pieces without any worry! They usually have sales up to 80 per cent depending on the season, and give you amazing results for any type of clothing. I’ve purchased a couple of things, and the key is to look at the picture reviews others have left on the product. If you see someone your size who has received it and loved it, you’re good to go! Most of their clothing is very thin however, so make sure to really look at the comments to see if it’s right for you. Sizing may vary so I always go for a bit bigger of a size just in case.

Etsy

Shopping on Etsy does not only save money, but it also helps small businesses! The creators put so much heart and soul into every product they make, and you can easily find something for everyone. It’s very easy to find heartfelt gifts that all your family and friends will love. I especially like finding gift boxes that you can personalize to show the extra thought you put into it!

Bake Something

This is a great way to save money, especially if you love baking! Even if you don’t, it’s something that is great for everyone, even the simplest cookie recipe will bring smiles to your friend’s faces. The great thing is, you can always double a recipe to keep some for yourself, cause who doesn’t love to snack while you’re cooking!

Plan a Night Out

This is one of my favourite things to do, and really cost-effective. Instead of exchanging gifts with someone (and perhaps giving each other things you don’t need), plan a night out or a day trip! Stay overnight downtown, or go to dinner and mini-golf! Not only are you getting time to spend with each other but you’re creating memories in the process. A truly great way to save money and have fun at the same time!

Hopefully, you’ll be able to use some of these in your last-minute gift-shopping, as I know they’ve really worked for me. Whether you’re looking to save money on regular items or looking for great gift ideas, I’m sure one of the things above will help!
