I have to admit, I don’t think I have ever been more obsessed with a fashion trend in my life than I currently am with buttons. When I say buttons, I don’t just mean the button that does up your jeans, I mean a row of buttons, big or small, at the front of a top.

This trend is so perfect for so many reasons. The first reason being that buttons mean you get to decide how much skin you want to show. So in theory, you could be wearing a fitted cardigan, and yes depending on what your cardigan might look like, you might not look totally “fashion forward”. However, unbutton a few buttons at the top and bottom of the cardigan, and you will have yourself a whole new look. This look is still “tasteful”, (whatever that really means), but still has fun and flirty aspect to it. This way I am also spared from walking around in a tiny crop top in the middle of winter, which is honestly quite the mission in our climate.Photo credit: Pinterest.com

As I said, this button trend is quite tasteful, and therefore has the ability to dress up literally any outfit. I cannot tell you how many times I have just thrown one on with a pair of jeans, and instantly look as if I have put together a whole outfit.

Another reason I love this trend, is that it is so versatile, “a top with buttons” can literally be anything. From cardigans, to t-shirts, tank tops, crop tops, or even a sweater, depending on the situation or occasion there will always be the perfect top with its adorable row of buttons.

Also what’s great about buttons is that they add detail to a top without being too flashy, which really works with the whole minimalism trend that has been very much on the rise. There is even opportunity to mix up the types of buttons you’re wearing, as mentioned there are different sized buttons, ranging amounts of buttons, and different patterns and colors of buttons.

Lastly, what I love so much about tops with buttons, is that they are great items to thrift and vintage shop. I cannot tell you how many cardigans I have come across while vintage/thrift shopping over the years, and never once imagined that they could look so cute.

Overall, I think tops with buttons are not just a trend; they will be here to stay, as they have become a classy and timeless staple to any outfit.
