6 Tips on Throwing the Perfect Galentine’s Day party

The opinions expressed in this article are the writer’s own and do not reflect the views of Her Campus.
This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Carleton chapter.

Love is in the air this week and it exists on all planes, not just romantic or sexual. When it
comes to Valentine’s day, there is a certain amount of pressure to find someone to spend that
special February 14th with. Regardless of your relationship status, we all deserve to feel the love
and celebrate a holiday based on chocolate! There’s nothing quite like a Galentine’s day party to
check all of those boxes.

So, today is the day to grab your best girlfriends, a bottle of wine and throw together a last-
minute Galentine’s party in honour of our favourite bestie: Leslie Knope from Parks and
Recreation
, and the founder of Galentine’s. Knope created the new holiday in season 2, episode
16 and the tradition has lived on since.

As women, we all share experiences that bond us no matter who, or where we are. This
Galentine’s day is about fun, and appreciation for our female friendships; celebrating the
women we are and have yet to become. So, here’s my list of tips and ideas to incorporate into
your party!

The Cocktail Contribution

It’s time to get creative with your girlfriends and whipping up a cute love-themed cocktail is the
perfect way to do so. Have each of your guests plan and make a pink drink that everyone can
enjoy, maybe you even consider giving them cute names! If you’re at a loss for ideas or simply
not a mixologist, here’s my go-to recipe.

Ingredients needed:
– A handful of strawberries
– 1.5 oz of Tequila
– 1 oz of Triple Sec
– Juice of half a lemon
– Mixer: any flavoured lemonade (preferably strawberry)

Cut the strawberries into hearts by cutting out small triangles from the top, then garnish the
glasses with them in any design you prefer. Add all of your ingredients together in an ice-filled glass, and enjoy!

Make Heart Shaped Pizzas

If you don’t like pizza, I don’t trust you. But whether or not you’re a heartbreaker or a love-
maker, you can participate in this Italian festivity. After all, everything tastes better when it’s
made with love. All you need to do is go to the closest bakery or grocery store and grab whatever
your heart desires! You’re on the right side of the pineapple-belongs-on-pizza debate? Perfect,
I’ll be right with you in the fruit aisle. Take your delicious haul home and fix up your own
individual pizzas, but roll the dough into a heart! They’ll come out of the oven so cute you might
not even want to eat them.

Dress Code

Tens! Tens! Tens across the board! I am positive that no matter what you and your besties show
up wearing it will be dead-drop gorgeous but, just to save ourselves the infamous, “So what are
we wearing?” group chat text, consider adding a dress code on your invitations. Perhaps You
want to keep things nice and low-key so rock the sweatsuits and pyjamas. Or, you and the girls go with the
traditional pink, red, and white colour palette. Regardless of your style, a dress code will keep that
Instagram feed on point!

Pink Elephant

If you’ve seen the American version of The Office, then you definitely know what a White
Elephant entails. But for those of you who haven’t, each player brings an unmarked, wrapped
gift and puts them in one large pile. Players draw numbers to determine which order they will
select the gifts in. The first player selects a gift and opens it for everyone to see. Everyone else
can choose to either pick a gift from the pile or steal one that’s already been opened! Each gift
can only be stolen once per turn and if you’re stolen from you can steal from someone else.

For more variations and more in-depth rules check out the official White Elephant Gift Exchange
Rules
list.

Pink Elephant holds all of the same rules I just explained, but the gifts are all Galentine’s day
themed: Sexy card games, lingerie, chocolate, wine, etc!

HeartThrob PowerPoint

While Galentine’s day is all about your besties, there’s no shame in a little indulgence! After all,
we’re only human. Consider polling your friends and finding out which celebs each of you hold
the biggest torch for in a fun, state-your-case style! Each party attendee will try to sell the group
on why a particular HeartThrob is their favourite (and should be yours) by creating and
presenting a PowerPoint! I’ll give you a hint: the only correct answer is Ryan Gosling.

Karaoke

Since we’re partying with our closest friends, there will be no judgment in the room! So, end
the night strong by singing your heart out to some karaoke. Toss in some love songs, maybe a
couple of heartbreak songs and a lot of tunes about friendship: and you’ve just planned the perfect
Galentine’s day party!

Hopefully, some of these ideas help to make your special Galentine’s party one to remember!
