Winter’s Cosiest Coats

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cardiff chapter.

Coats can feel like a pricey purchase, but a statement investment is enough to make any outfit enviable. Here are some of the hottest cover-ups to keep you both warm and looking stylish this snowy season.

The oversized coat shows us sometimes bigger is better!  Layering up has never been so stylish and is a great way to keep you cosy against Cardiff’s winter chill.
The loose structure combined with curved shoulders provides the perfect mix of strong style with a feminine finish.
It’s also incredibly versatile; a simple change in colour or fabric can create a whole new look. So whether you prefer a more grunge style with tartan or like to look pretty in pink, there’s a style to suit every girl.

The ‘teddy bear style’ coat. This look is luxurious yet comfortable and looks amazing in bold colours.  The tasteful design of the coat means that colours usually not associated with materials such as fur or shearling look exquisite in bright pastels; this is great news for girls wanting to incorporate a warm summer palette into your cool winter wardrobe.

Designers opting for long jackets is fabulous for ladies blessed with long legs; however, petite girls can still follow the trend by choosing a more fitted, tailored style to avoid feeling swamped by material.  Buttoned up or belted, this can make any outfit sophisticated.

The classic trench coat is a timeless piece for every winter; give it a makeover this year in bold leather or make a statement in camouflage.

Sleeveless coats have been spotted all over the fashion runways and are both bold and elegant.  Gilets are a great way to incorporate this style in a less formal way; add some faux fur and it’s perfect for any occasion.
