Happy Belated National Cat Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal U chapter.

Halloween is here, and what goes perfect with all hallows eve? CATS! Lets just be honest with ourselves and say that cats can be hip, aesthetic, cute and just overall adorable. For Instance, if you log into tumblr you’re bound to see cats floating on slices of pizza or something wild like that.

National Cat day was created in 2005 by Pet and Family Lifestyles Expert & Animal Welfare Advocate Colleen Paige. National Cat Day is always on Oct. 29th, which is perfect because that’s two great days only two days apart: Cat Day and Halloween. Cats have been used for centuries as comfort animals, friends and for keeping mice out of unwanted areas. The purpose of National Cat Day is to motivate the public to open their eyes and see just how many cats need to be rescued. Also, the day is just for cat lovers to love cats a little extra. Cats give their owners unconditional love and can be your best friend and or/ child. To all the cat lovers of America, let’s do our part and celebrate this day with our cats.

Cats have been domesticated for around 4000 years. The Egyptians first did this because they were fascinated with them and saw benefits of making them pets too. The Egyptians trained cats to keep pests out and protect their food storage. The Egyptians even had death penalties if you were caught murdering a cat! Domestic cats today still share many characteristics with their ancestors. Cats today still groom themselves and still hold the same shape. Ancient cats even pounced on their preys as they do today, but I think it’s safe to say that cats are a little less dangerous.

Cats are one of the most popular house pets today. Cats are also beautiful and overall easy to take care of. To all CalU students: make sure you stop and wish the River Lot cats a happy belated Cat Day!
