A small town girl living in Thermal, California, moves to Los Angeles to attend CalStateLA. Yes, that’s me. In this past year, I have successfully transferred from a small junior college to a larger university in Los Angeles and became the new campus correspondent of Her Campus CalStateLA (HC CalStateLA). One of the hardest challenges I’ve had to overcome was getting out of my comfort zone and meeting new people. I let myself be open and vulnerable to friendship, rejection and new possibilities.
My first quarter at CalStateLa I told myself I would get involved. The summer before school started, I stumbled upon HC CalStateLA Instagram page and went deep into their timeline. I loved what I saw! The first friendship I made was with a girl whom I met at a school function my first week. It seemed to be destiny because she was a writer/blogger for HC CalStateLA. From that point on, we became best friends and I became a writer. After my first year at CalStateLA, I was asked to take over as campus correspondent to continue the good work my predecessors started before me.
My only hope is to not screw up, continue to be open to new possibilities and move beyond my own insecurities.
