Loving Her Was Red: Why We’re Taylor Swift Fans

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal State LA chapter.

Do we really need to explain to you who Taylor Swift is? She’s a household name with more hit songs than fingers and toes combined. She’s a fashion icon living the dream life in the Big Apple. Her latest studio album, 1989, came out on October 27 and was her very first pop album, marking her jump from the country scene. Taylor is constantly in and out of the media, regarding (but not limited to): dating gossip, new music written specifically for films, and her friendship with the newly infamous Lorde. But in the last few months, we’ve been falling more and more in love with Taylor Swift! Here’s what we’ve seen up to 1989’s release that give us the T Swift feels.

Her fan interactions

It’s usually not the norm for pop stars to let fans come into their homes, eat cookies, and listen to soon-to-be-released albums. Taylor did just that. Her 1989 Secret Sessions were held across the US and the UK and included hand picked Taylor Swift fans! Not only did they get to listen to her new songs, the fans were able to touch Taylor’s Grammy’s, play with her cats, and take adorably cheesy Polariods with her!

Taylor has also recently jumped into everyone’s favorite blog scene: Tumblr. Most of us spend our weeknights scrolling through our dashboards and it seems like Taylor does too! She’s constantly reblogging posts from her fans and commenting on them with her witty and honest comments!

Stories via songs

Yeah, yeah lots of artists write stories in their lyrics. But Taylor makes them so relatable; we can’t help but love them! One of her newest songs “Out of the Woods” really hit major points with so many listeners. This specific song tells a relationship story from start to finish and conveys that anxiousness you get when you are unsteady ground almost flawlessly. The best part of “Out of the Woods?” The bridge where the male voice sings Taylor’s chorus, as if he feels the same anxiety as she does. So. Good.

She’s been shaking the haters off

Taylor has been vocal lately about her life and how she’s enjoying being single, exploring feminism, and just living it up in New York. But sadly, she still has haters that won’t rest about her and her ex boyfriends. Sigh. Luckily, Taylor is listening to her hit song and shaking off all the haters! When an Australian radio show asked Taylor about how she writes songs based on her relationships, she quickly defended herself saying it’s what she has always done as a form of expression. She also states how sexist those comments can be and pointed out that male artists do the same thing, but no one questions it. Insert all the clap emojis here.

Her style game

Though Taylor has always had a solid sense of fashion, her street style this year really hit a home run! Outfit after outfit, Taylor has been such a visual inspiration. Her hair, the colors, the simplicity, her shoes! Even if her clothes aren’t your type, you have to admit that her confidence just shines, no matter what she wears! Taylor is making us want to look good and feel good, even when we are just crossing the road.

So there you have it! A few reasons why some of the ladies of HC Cal State LA are fans of the lovely Taylor Swift! And while we take breaks from jamming to 1989, we’ll be listening to this classic TS throwback…

After taking four different MBTI tests, Christine is the definition of someone who is half ENFJ and ESFP (she got two for each type). With that being said, this clearly explains her major in Communications at Cal State LA. With a love for fashion and music, she's the type of person who will post #ootds and pictures of every concert she's at on her Instagram. Along with that, Christine has a horrible addiction with cupcakes and tattoos which will eventually be the death of her unless her parents figure out she already has more than one tattoo first.... Find out what she's up to by following her Instagram @christineetran
