10 Ways to Have the Best School Year

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Cal State LA chapter.

1. Get InvolvedJoin a club or organization on campus, it’ll not only enhance your experience there, but it’s a great opportunity to make new friends and build resources.

2. Get a Study BuddyExchange contact information with a classmate because stuff happens and you never know when you’re going to need them!

3. Get OrganizedQuit trying to keep track of all your assignments in your head. Let’s be honest, you’re going to make yourself go insane by doing that. Save yourself time and headache by getting an agenda planner or create your own spreadsheet of assignments, meetings, work, etc. It’ll be a lifesaver.

4. Talk to Your ProfessorsAs nerve-wracking as that sounds, do it. Take advantage of those office hours. The professor will appreciate it that you took the time to further discuss the material covered in class.

5. Stock Up on School SuppliesWho doesn’t love new school supplies?! Having new school supplies is essential to learning. Plus, having colorful post-it’s, pens, highlighters, and notebooks makes it a prettier learning experience, right?

6. Find Time for YourselfGoing to school full-time and working at the same time can be tough for any student. That is why I will stress to you that it is extremely important that you get out there and manage to find time for yourself. Take a trip to the spa; it’s okay to put your hectic schedule on pause for a day… or two.

7. Stay MotivatedStay on top of your busy schedule. If you binge watch a whole a season of Scandal on Netflix, it’s okay! Dust it off and get back on track. You’re in school for a reason; whether it is to land that dream job in the future or get an education don’t let yourself fall behind.

8. Utilize Your ResourcesTake advantage of the resources on campus. Get to know your campus web site and find out what is available to you. If you’re having trouble with that one math class, visit your math lab center for help.

9. Stay ConnectedGet familiar with current events on campus. Have a Twitter, Instagram or Facebook account? The campus has all social media accounts provided to its students so that way when the next big event is on campus you’ll be in the loop.

10. Have Fun    Lastly, enjoy your time in campus. Instead of bolting out of the classroom door as soon your last lecture class ends, meet with a classmate over a cup of coffee and check out that DIY class you’ve wanted to try. The campus is your second home, so enjoy it while you’re there.
