For the first time, Marvel is releasing a film centering around Carol Danvers, better known as Captain Marvel, and her origin story. If you haven’t heard, this movie is going to be Marvel’s first female-led superhero movie, and we are super excited for it!

Actress Brie Larson is playing the main character Carol Danvers, and is joined by heroes we recognize like Nick Fury, played by Samuel L. Jackson, and villains we don’t, like the Skrulls, an alien race we have yet to see in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).

This movie follows Carol, a superhero with a past on Earth that she can’t quite remember, on her adventure as she tries to figure out where she’s from, while Earth becomes involved in a galactic war between the Skrulls, and the Kree, another alien race that Carol thinks she’s apart of. It’s set in the 90’s, and we’re sure it will prove to be unforgettable.

There is a lot of significance behind the creation of Captain Marvel’s movie. Female-led films are few and far between, especially in the superhero genre, where solo films feature women in supporting roles rather as a main character in their own story. Times are starting to change now after the success of Wonder Woman in 2017.  Marvel has already created a successful, female-led Netflix show entitled Jessica Jones, which began in 2015 and is ongoing. Hopefully this momentum keeps going and more people of all different identities can see themselves on the big screen as a superhero in their own movie.

Captain Marvel is coming out on March 8, 2019, and we hope you all enjoy!
